Bob Costas to Honor Slain Israeli Athletes
July 19, 2012 14:00 by Alex Margolin
Former US President George W. Bush speaks with Bob Costas of NBC Sports during an interview while attending the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) immoral decision to reject calls for a moment of silence for Israeli’s athletes murdered at the 1972 Munich games will not go unnoticed.
Sportcaster Bob Costas told the Hollywood Reporter this week that he had his own plans for a tribute to the athletes as part of his duties covering the Olympics for NBC Sports.
At the July 27 Opening Ceremony from London, Costas plans to call out the IOC for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games. On the 40th anniversary of Munich, it’s a decision he finds “baffling.” When the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium, Costas will stage his own protest: “I intend to note that the IOC denied the request,” he says, modulating his voice as if he were on the air. “Many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive. Here’s a minute of silence right now.”
An IOC-backed moment of remembrance is still the most appropriate way to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attack on Israel’s athletes. After all, it’s part of the Olympic history as much as any of the athletic events of that year. But if the IOC is turning a blind eye to its own legacy, having Bob Costas step in and rectify the issue in front of a massive audience of US Olympic watchers may well be the next best thing.
Who knows, maybe other members of the media will follow suit.

The IOC along with most European nations are predominately anti-semitic. They would prefer not to include Israel at all and if they must they want them relegated to an invisible position.

Bob, you are a hero, and those of us who see the Olympics as a forum that should go out of its way to honor the simple vision for peace that all humanity shares, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Bravo, Bob! The Olympic Games were forever tarnished by the deaths of the innocent Israeli athletes in 1976, and the IOC should do penitence a thousand times if necessary to make things right again. A moment of silence is the VERY LEAST they could do.

Good for Mr.Costa.
To the ioc-you are the reason
I do not contribute to the Olympics.
These games are for all countries to
compete.Not your (IOC) political agenda.
I think there should be silience for the Israelis
killed in the bus bombing

Thank you Bob Costas,Bravo!
The IOC’s decision to deny the Moment of Silence and to remember the athletes killed in Munich by terrorists is unbelievable.
We need more public courage and integrity displayed like Bob Costas’ statement of intent. Hope others in media will follow him!

The IOC promotes itself as an international peace and sports organization. In truth it is a self contained business organization. It may give out a few million towards sporting groups, events, and of course a sports drug monitoring division, but it is actually a multi-billion dollar profit driven organization.
It spends nothing on the actual games, takes revenue from every event, the host is required to provide media feeds free but the IOC sells the use of the video and audio for multi-millions to each network that rebroadcasts. The IOC is wined and dined at the host’s expense.
You can be (as so many) the leader of a dictatorship to be on the IOC board. Why expect better?

I believe that the IOC really needs to get a grip on the humanity of this situation. The IOC has a bad enough reputation as it is, and this further demonstrates that they kowtow to certain “influences”. Sorry, but I don’t want to be accused of slander, etc., but everyone know who is who here. This refusal now – to acknowledge the Massacre in Munich in 1972 of Israeli athletes – another denial of the truth??? Do they think people don’t get what’s going on here???

The IOC was quite capable of changing the rules and agenda to allow a minute of silence for the Austrian luger who died just before the Vancouver games. For forty years – ten summer and ten winter games – the IOC couldn’t find a minute of time to remember the murdered Israeli Olympians.
A minute of silence in their memory should be part of all opening ceremonies. It would represent exactly what the IOC is supposed to be against. Guess not.
Its all about making money, and the IOC walked away with billions of profit for the last few games, even if the host country lost money. That is what counts. Not the medals but the profits.

For those who wish to make their own tribute, the Zionist Federation will be having a short internet memorial service on 27 July, followed by a one minute silence. More information at http://www.minuteformunich.org.

You would think that the IOC would not mid sports with politics but alas I was wrong!
Are they being threatened ?
Are they just cowards ?
Are they antisemitic ? Arabs are also Semites !!
I suppose they just can’t be bothered, they were only Jews!
