Breaking News: Facebook Shuts Down Third Intifada Group

March 29, 2011 13:40 by

Despite previous statements saying they would monitor but not remove the controversial Facebook group calling for a Third Intifada, Facebook administrators shut down the group early Tuesday morning in response to enormous pressure from pro-Israel activists. All links to the group now go to users personal Facebook profile.

The group had been calling for a march on Israel to “liberate” Palestine beginning on May 15. It remains to be seen how Facebook will respond if similar groups emerge with similar message of a Third Intifada.

New media expert Andre Oboler, one of the first to discover the group was down, told HonestReporting that Facebook made the correct decision shutting down the group.  “It’s about time,” he said. “Facebook needs to learn to distinguish between the right to ‘attack’ conceptual ideas, and the ‘wrong’ of attacking people be it because of their race, religion, nationality or political view. When they start to understand that, perhaps they will stop making so many mistakes.”

See our previous post for background on the issue.

Kudos to Facebook that it had the integrity and courage to go against the many millions in the Arab World calling for Israeli and Jewish destruction. There is nothing new in typecasting the Jews as the devil of all the ills plaguing the world. Hitler used it successfully as the cause of all the problems in Germany. And the Arab establishment has foisted it conveniently on their masses as the reason for their poverty, lack of jobs, plight of their brethren wherever. They threw out their Jews, the same number as Palestinians who left that country, in each case virtually only wilth the shirts on their backs. The Palestinians were offered up to 98% of the land beyond the truce lines of 1967, but refused to accept it. What they want is all of Palestine, right up to the beach in Tel Aviv
Now, they are threatening another intifada, terror in the streets and countryside of Israel, filled with anti-Jewish rhetoric. Thank you, Facebook, for reallizing that your subscription to that action would be criminal. As they say in Arabic, Mazel Tov.

I agree with the previous commentor…kudos to Facebook having the corporate courage to take down this awful social locus. Social networking can be a wonderful tool to connect people. However, there are limits to this technology when hate is pushed. Good job Facebook.

Well, lets see how they keep to their word about boycotting facebook, now that the page has been removed.

I certainly wouldn’t mind if for once they meant what they say. But we all know otherwise…

        Oh well.

that may be so, but it carries the poster add for the 3rd intifada as supported and proposed by the now removed hate page. If they were to remove that poster ad, I would feel more comfortable. yet the cow’s left the barn with more than 300,000 liking viewers already having seen the removed content…

  6. [...] UPDATE:  Facebook Shuts Down Third Intifada Group Atlas Shrugs brought the following news to my attention this morning. There is a Facebook page calling for another Islamic war against the Jews, a “Palestinian” Third Intifada. Israel is asking Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to remove the page. And with every second that passes, it appears their request will be declined. Why? Posted at the very bottom of the ’Third Palestinian Intifada’ page is the image below. [...]

All of this does not really make me happy. If a Jew has to rejoice because a terrible
outcry for the destruction of Israel has been partly stopped than, no, sorry, do count me out. I am not coming to any party to celebrate. I want much more. I want persecution of evil. I want hatespeech to be not only forbidden but a criminal offence punishable by a couple of years inside a prison.
How bad do things have to get before we shall see redemption?

That’s very good things to want. You can be proactive in this matter, by making sure that in your personal life, you do not say anything negative about anyone. (If you really need to speak about someone’s negative behavior, speak to your Rav or Mashpia, on how you can erradicate the negativity from within you.

Now that is really one step closer to seeing Moshiach with our physical eyes.

I totally agree with Lea de Lange, and add only that it bothers me that the original post reads: “Facebook administrators shut down the group early Tuesday morning in response to enormous pressure from pro-Israel activists.”

I would hope that pressure came from people other than pro-Israel activists. This is about eradicating messages on social media that celebrate the destruction of any race, religion or indeed anyone that one does not agree with. I’d like to think that Facebook heard from anyone who deplores hate speech.

Perhaps it would be better to keep it on and see how many Arabs march to Israel from the West Bank and through through Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt on May 15, which is the anniversary of Israeli Independence. I would prefer if Face book played all the speaches from Gamal Abdul Nasser and all the other hate mongers to remind them of the predictions that never happened, the flowerly lies and outrageous claims and to hear Arab reactions played on facebook for the world to view.

Why all the fuss? Facebook and all the phony and santimonious media should have the courage to resist primitive and atrocious hatemongers from the outset, and not wait for protests and outcries from supporting groups. This is as bad as Abu Maazen who tells his people not to commit atrocities, not because it’s morally wrong, but because it’s harmful to the Palestinian cause. Disgusting really.

Check out Third Palestinian Intifada on Facebook and you can find several sites – very active.
There was supposed to be a boycott of Facebook on Sunday 3 April but someone cancelled it because they thought the site was down. Facebook is not doing a very good job of monitoring incitement.
