To be honest, I don’t care what is done with the photos. What I do care about is that the information that they allegedly found in his abode, the tapes, videos, computer disc’s etc, that is more important that looking at his ugly face.

There is not a thing to be gained by releasing the photos. If need be, invite the various country leaders to Washington to personally view them, sans cameras.
But if a person does not believe OBL is dead, no photo will convince him or her.
OBL’s followers are perfectly willing to film the slow slicing off of a person’s head or the likking of non- US Nato employees for the burnign of paper — THEY are the ones not to be trusted, not the US.

No, I do not agree with Obama’s decision not to release the photos. The video of Saddam being hanged was cathartic for many, and the picture(s) of UBL with his head ventilated would likewise be cathartic for many.
Besides, if they insist on hating us, I insist they also fear us. (Borrowed that line, but forget the name of the original source). A pic of a dead “mastermind” is a good start.

I believe the families/loved ones of those killed on 9/11 have a right to see the dead body, grusome though it may to some, of the son of a bitch who orchestrated the acts of war that were perpetrated that day.

I aagree with President O bama’s decision not to release the bin Laden photos. They will become a rallying point for all terorists, Islamics, tgerroristr sympathizers, and many others looking for reasons to bash the U.S. The pictures will greatly prolong that amount of time that he wuill be remembered. His picture woll become a myrter symbol for a long time.

I absolutely agree with President Obama in not releasing the photos. Nothing good can come of releasing them. There is not question that bin Laden is dead. Gruesome pictures can be used to inflame radicals and endanger our troops abroad. Class act, Mr. President.

no. a class act would have refused, right from the start, to release such pictures, because it is immoral to do so. having the strength to act on moral principles is called “courage”.
a dhimmi would rather not do anything that might upset the moslems, because that would lead to (violent) punishment. which is strikingly similar to the reasoning put forward by the white house, and the dhimmi-in-chief, for the change of heart in not releasing the pictures.
acting out of fear of the consequences is called “cowardice”.

Quite frankly, I don’t personally care but we’re dammed if we do and if we don’t. Showing the photos would further insite the already venomous arabs to retaliate. I’m sure they are already planning something regardless. His death was reason enough, but do we really know if he is dead and that it was him? Nevertheless, if we have to believe that he was so quickly murdered which I find hard to believe, then I think that showing the Muslim world that enough is enough and that we too can hate, they better not start with us again. I find it rather odd that there were no soldiers defending the compound or Bin Laden when they heard helicopters whirling above their home. How odd is that? I lived in the middle east for 10 years and can also tell you that this situation with muslims will never be over. It is a life style and ideology that permeates throughout their lives. It gives them purpose and a job. These fanatics breed one after another and there will always be someone to replace him. They are a demented people. The rest of the world worries about making a living and raising a family. Not them! They want to truly control the earth! We better start to try and understand the mentality of other races. Fast!

I agree the timing was designed to boost Obama’s chances to be re-elected, which does make the lack of evidence of its validity rather suspect. I think that the mistakes made by people in the media announcing Obama’s death have been rather funny, something he should have thought of before using his middle name as President imo. He would have been better off going after Ahmadinajad not so much chance of confusing Osama with Obama.

bush sr. took the 100 hour war and … lost the reelection campaign. that event took place way too early for it to have any bearing on the election. so too this action will have zero impact on the election.
as for using his middle name…huh? we each have our names. is it obama’s fault that he was given his (apicorous) father’s name?
confusing osama and obama was supposed to dictate that obama ignore osama? you’re joking, right?

the election cycle is much too long for something occurring 18 months out to have any impact. the only folks i’m aware of who think this was a fraud are folks who spend way too much time listening to rush limbaugh and glenn beck. i dare say (not aware of any polling on this point), the rest of the population, having been spared the disingenuous blatherings of comedians dressed up as thinkers, aren’t reacting to the bho administration as perpetrators of fraud. they’re responding to policies and local, bread and butter impact. my issue with bho is over his failure to pursue keynsian policy in the face of economic disaster. but i have no reason to question the man’s honesty and integrity. but then, i don’t listen to hyperbolic screeds of the right wing talking heads, pretending they are serious participants in a national discussion. other than that limited slice of the population dedicated to tea, few others will mistake this action as mere political manipulation.

…and the hyperbolic screeds of the left (i.e. Rachel Mancow, Keith Olbermann) do advance a so-called national discussion? Just because you disagree with someone’s politics doesn’t mean that person isn’t elevating national discourse. Your comment shows a horribly partisan approach to issues that won’t elevate anything other than left-wing talking points.

Would it really have been cathartic to see these pictures, as one person claims ? I believe that ‘closure’ is over-rated.What end would have been served ? It would have been sinking to his level & made him even more of more a martyr. I felt like a voyeur when I saw Hussein dropping. Surely one wants to be more dignified & restrained, or one is no better than they are.

Anna,
So far in all dealings with Muslims the west has been dignified and restrained and moral. How has it benefited us? They have expanded and increased and multiplied and spread their poisonous, murderous creed and atrocities world wide.
One must fight fire with an even hotter fire, Acting like gentlemen is merely throwing gasoline on the fire. It makes us look weak.
Showing the pictures would certainly have outraged them. Everything outrages them. But it would have shown them what they can, for a certainty, expect.

Mickey,
The problem is that they do not need to be inflamed. These people hate us and believe that they are the entitled ‘Rulers of the world’, they think that every nation must come under the laws of Islam, and they will do anything to achieve it. Not much different to what the Romans thought when they created the Roman Catholic Church. And really when all is said and done Islam is the new heir to Rome. And they will kill off every Infidel that they can because they believe it fervently. We cannot appease them, nothing will appease them. As long as Israel tries to play by their rules, the Islamists win, and while the west appeases them, Islam rules. Osama Bin Laden was their version of an Islamic messiah, and look at how well that has turned out for Israel. Without evidence of his death the Muslims will not believe that their newly ‘martyred messianic figure’ is dead, and they will become even more aggressive and violent. Osama Bin Laden should have been taken back to the United States and tried and then executed. Shooting him in the head has just created yet another Muslim martyr.

With all due respect, the issue isn’t about muslim sensibilities, it’s about transparency in the federal government. Since the president has spent millions of dollars hiding things about his past, has limited the media’s coverage of uncomfortable policy decisions (Eric Holder’s refusing to act on prosecutions of the New Black Panther Party’s voter intimidation in Philadelphia, the presidents history of filing lawsuits against private companies that didn’t kowtow to the demands of Acorn, etc.) makes some people doubt the man’s word. The issue really is rather simple; if you’ve got nothing to hide, then allow stuff into the public domain. The president promised the most transparent administration in US history. Unfortunately for all, his administration has been anything but.

no, the best way to show them what they can expect is NOT to gloat over osama bin laden’s death, or to call attention to his 10-year run of evading capture, but to eliminate (kill, capture, try, execute, etc.) as many more al-qaeda terrorists as possible.
actions speak louder than words (or pictures). and, as a bonus, fewer live terrorists means fewer terrorist attacks.
in the mindset of the jihadists, osama bin laden is well on his way to paradise, where they are eager to follow. publishing some gory pictures of the remains that he left behind isn’t going to change that.
and it isn’t the way that we, as civilized people, want to behave.

I’m sorry but your notion of allowing this man to have any kind of dignity in death is absurd. OBL was an unrepentant mass murderer that deserved precisely what he got. Those that deserve dignity are those that give it. Applying western values to those who only respond to violence invite more violence because they perceive us as weak. You really need to spend some time reading about the history of Islam and how it treated those they considered infidels and/or weak. It’s almost 1,500 years of murder, rape, humiliation, and subjugation.
Those that behave with dignity and respect the rights of others, regardless of their beliefs, are the only one that should receive dignity in death. The rest should be discarded and forgotten for the sake of mankind.

alive, he was a wanted terrorist, but dead he is just a body, and should accorded the dignity of any other dead human being.
how we treat the dead reflects on our values. so when al-jazeera gleefully shows images of people being executed or dead bodies being abused, it is a barbaric spectacle that demonstrates their lack of reverence for life.
it is so wrong to abuse a dead body for political or propaganda purposes. taking the pictures in the first place was questionable, but publishing them is clearly immoral.
unfortunately, it is not clear is that the white house chose to withhold the pictures on moral grounds, rather than out of fear of islamist retaliation.

Do you think that Hitler in death should have had a proper burial, and that all the documentation and photographs of what happened to the Jews should have been burnt according to morality. Hitler was not human, therefore let us not talk about someone being “human” as evil as they were during their lifetime. After killing 6 million Jews and many many more millions of Russians etc, should he have been given a “normal” burial? I cannot say anymore, because I am stunned by that comment!

Photos would prove or disprove nothing. Either you believe he is dead or you believe he is alive. Unfortunately, facts have nothing to do with it. What happened, peoples motives, their actions and reactions will be judged by History. Except for the intel gathered, it’s best forgotten.

My point was that the US decided to assassinate Osama Bin Laden, when they could have taken him back to the States, and put him on Trial there, charged him with his crimes against humanity. The photos will only prove that he is dead. But a dead dog is just a dead dog, and his death will inflame the Muslims to attack, and concealing the photos will not prevent them from more terrorist attacks, but a Bin Laden who had been forced to confess and show weakness would be much better than another so called martyr.

Islamic Terrorists should be put before a Military Tribunal, not given a normal trial which is afforded to citizens. Put the evidence out that about his crimes, there is plenty of that available on the internet, and put the fear of God into the terrorists that they will get short shrift and a quick trial followed by a quick execution. Something like what they did to the Nazis after WW2 at Nuremberg. No reprieves, no long dragged out ordeal for the people. There are other nations besides the US that suffered thanks to Osama Bin Laden, we need justice too. I am an Aussie and thanks to Osama we had the Bali Bombing same Islamic terrorist behaviours, blowing up buildings with people in them. Islam has one goal world domination.

this is an unnecessary and worse inciteful discussion. how would you feel if a relative of yours was shot. would you want a photo of the relative released to the world? none of bin Laden’s followers need to see this. it will only make them angrier that they are. if it is released, we would be gloating. this is immoral. please cut off this weekly question. there are plenty of things to cover concerning the raid besides this. this website is pretending to show how some Arabs and others demean Israel. i understand your sentiment. my understanding of the technique is that it is acceptable to Muslims as a burial technique. your technique would inflame the entire Arab world even those who are our friends. in addition, no one will ever find the body thereby removing the possibility of anyone being able to make shrine around the body.

I wonder if the Western world would be so quick to remove the terrorist organisations who hate the Jews and would like to see them all annihilated. Obama is quite happy to host those heads of Governments who are enemies of Israel. If Israel does not fend for itself then no other country will. Osama Bin Laden is dead, and he should be, he was a terrorist (the mastermind) behind 9/11 and many many people were killed. It was horrifying what he and his followers were and still are capable of doing. Now, thinking about Israel, would Obama consider removing the enemies of Israel – Hamas? No? We are not the US or any other country. We are Israel, not deserving of respect, respect which is given to Muslim organisations which would like to see the annihilation of all Jews. Have you ever seen Israel burn a flag of any country? No! These are points that people need to recognise. Israel has not been given the respect or recognition it so badly deserves!! The Muslim Brotherhood – where does Israel stand with them? They will become Israel’s # 1 enemy!! Israel will always be expected to give away more and more land!! This has to stop!!

Who needs to see blood and guts everywhere, just to know hes gone is enough. These people who cause so much destruction dont wait around to see what damage they do they dont care, they dont have a conscience they are blinded by and brainwashed by what they have been taught from day one. The people who follow them are mostly ignorant of what the world is all about they can only focus on there own little bit of surroundings and life and what they have been taught which is so biased they dont know it. The more blood our young generation see the more immune they are to feel, and the damage it does to their emotions.

The world has the right to see the photos of a dead Osama Bin Laden, it should not be left up to Obama to make that decision. Many people need to see it confirmed. I am one of them. Otherwise how do we know it was not all just another cover-up by the politician Obama, trying to rescue his legitimacy as President. Claiming to have killed Osama for political reasons. We see images of dead people all the time, why is Osama Bin Laden’s dead body so precious that it must be concealed. If it was the body of an ordinary soldier it would be displayed, the dead bodies of the Jews slaughtered by Muslims were not concealed, they gloated about them.
