First Western Journo Killed in Syria

Gilles Jacquier

Gilles Jacquier, an award-winning cameraman who worked for France 2 TV, was killed in Homs when a barrage of grenades struck a pro-government rally. Seven other people were killed in the attack.

CNN says Damascus blames “an armed terrorist group,” but the LA Times quotes Syrian activists pointing a finger at the regime:

They blamed the deaths on Syrian authorities, who they accused of trying to intimidate journalists who might want to report in a city that has been at the epicenter of the unrest.

The France 2 crew, along with other reporters, was in Homs on a government-organized media tour. More details and video from the incident at The Lede.
