Ha’aretz Creates Non-Existent Apartheid State

October 23, 2012 17:02 by

Gideon Levy

Ha’aretz is a major source of critical and anti-Israel stories for the international media. In the latest example, Ha’aretz’s radical left-wing commentator Gideon Levy has deliberately fed the international media a skewed and biased reading of a poll that claims “Most Israeli Jews would support apartheid regime in Israel“.

Gideon Levy regularly demonizes the Jewish state to foreign audiences and in his own newspaper columns. He regularly goes beyond legitimate criticism of Israel, crossing red lines and allying himself with those who refer to Israel as a racist “apartheid state”, promote boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) and wish to see the very destruction of Israel.

On the basis that Levy promotes the canard of Israeli “apartheid”, he is the last journalist who could give an objective analysis of this polls results.

His article opens with the following premise:

Most of the Jewish public in Israel supports the establishment of an apartheid regime in Israel if it formally annexes the West Bank.

But let’s take a look at the findings:

Gideon Levy’s entire premise is based on a hypothetical situation where Israel annexes the West Bank. However, perhaps the real story here is that a plurality of the Israeli public does not favor annexing West Bank settlements let alone the West Bank in its entirety.

This makes the question of voting rights for Palestinians in an annexed West Bank entirely moot. That such a large majority of the Israeli public would deny such a right to Palestinians is unsurprising given that this would effectively lead to the end of Israel as a Jewish state if it allowed Palestinians to vote as equal citizens or the end of Israel as a democratic state if it denied Palestinians those rights.

Which is exactly why the Israeli public does not support such a policy, precisely because the majority of Israelis do not want to be associated with apartheid.

Other statistics are casually tossed in by Levy to support his view of Israel as an apartheid state:

A sweeping 74 percent majority is in favor of separate roads for Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank. A quarter – 24 percent – believe separate roads are “a good situation” and 50 percent believe they are “a necessary situation.”

What Levy fails to clarify is that this form of separation is not done on a racial basis but solely on citizenship. Israeli Arabs have as much right as Israeli Jews to travel on any roads they so wish. Any separation on the West Bank road system (and there are plenty of shared roads) is solely due to security and has nothing whatsoever to do with claims of apartheid.

Levy chooses to highlight significant minority opinions where it suits him. For example:

Ethan, you are quite correct regarding the power of $billions spent by Saudi Arabia tghrough its world wide embassies. It is spent on spreading the cause of Islam and conversion by losers. It is used to finance antiJewish and Israel propaganda and hate. There is no doubt, that much of this finance is spent on encouraging individuals and organisations to see the right of their cause.
International reporting on Israel is not double standards, it goes far beyond that. This is a war in which any standad or lack of, is legal to be used against the Jews and Israel, according to the Arab despots.
The shame of it all is how those in the west are willing to accept this tyranny

Remember the outcry by those on the left when the present Israeli government wanted to know where all their money originates from? Well, it is known that the EU and various UN and international charities supportive of the Arab cause are major contributors.
It is even more hurtful to know that Jews are so brainwashed by the International socialist movements dogma, are prepared to harm the Jewish people and its own one tiny state. They should be cursed more than the goyim.
International media rely on Arab financial investments, along with other major outlets, and their journalists are too afraid to other than supportive of their cause, for fear of their wellbeing. Note female assaults!!

But it is also disgraceful how Israel has failed time and again to bring the issue of the 850,000 Jews from the Arab countries expelled 1947-67. Israel embraced its refugees; the Arabs dehumanized theirs and left them to rot in the camps with UN funding. Who deserves the world’s respect? Israel or the “Arab Nation”? Both refugee issues must be negotiated together!

The Palestinian leader has categorically stated that no Jews will be allowed in the intended new “Palestinian State”. That follows the precedentof that other Palestinian state, Jordan, from which Jews were barred at its inception in1920.
Does Gideon Levy ever write about this explicit policy of, not apartheid, but outright ethnic cleansing? Had Israel adopted the same policy at its birth towards the Arabs living there, would Mr. Levy be happier? After all, there would be no hint of “apartheid” in Israel today!

I’m afraid there is no nice objective way of interpreting statistics that 42% wouldn’t want an Arab in their child’s class or sharing their building. It may be a minority but it is a large minority and doesn’t make good reading whichever way you want to look at it. However none of your commentators above seem particularly bothered.

No Stephen, it doesn’t make good reading. Worse reading though, was Arab citizens of Israel cheering from the rooftops acroass the country when Scud missiles were falling on their shared country – fired by their families and co-religionists in Iraq. Jews living in Iraq and other Arab countries for centuries never supported external or internal enemies who wanted to destroy their home. Equally bad reading is the constant venom spewed by Arab MPs, whose children may be sitting next to the targets of that constant abuse. It’s a question of security. We simply don’t know who the Arabs are. The first imperative is to protect our own. Pleasnt reading comes further down the list.

But why is Israel always the one singled out for this. Israeli Arabs are the best off of any Arabs exempting Oil Princes and Kleptomaniac Despots.. Also, whyis there never any criticism of Arab States who ban or oppress Jews. Jews have lived in Judea and Samaria for almost 3,000 years. And now these “Palestinians” say there is no room for Jews in “their” land. Not even Jerusalem!
      Stop displaying you ignorant bias!

When the Fogel massacre happened last year and Levy knew it was Palestinians who committed the massacre, Levy reported about the Japan Earthquake instead.
We all know this was diversion to the atrocities the Palestinians committed at Itamar.
As post number 23 said, Gideon Is writing about Japan an excuse to avoid writing about the murder of Israeli children who are the victims you should be talking about

What a fraud of a news outlet is Haaretz. Occasionally they do a straight news story but the opinion is so left-wing it is useless except to remind readers that their bias is rampant.
