Irish Newspaper: How to Boycott Israel
December 3, 2012 15:00 by Simon Plosker
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has issued a call to ban imports from what it calls “illegal Israeli settlements”.
The Irish Times reports on the story, stating that the head of the ICTU is calling for an “urgent meeting” with the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs “to seek an immediate and effective intervention by the Irish Government in light of the recent conflict in the Gaza Strip.”
With an accompanying article expressing the objections of Israel’s ambassador to Dublin, perhaps the Irish Times sought the veneer of balance and objectivity.
Except the Irish Times didn’t express a properly stated opinion on whether it supports a boycott or not.
Instead of an editorial or a public statement supporting a boycott, the paper includes what is effectively a guide on how readers can boycott Israeli goods, including a slideshow of images such as the iconic Ahava cosmetic brand.
It lists items such as carpets, garden furniture and cosmetics that are manufactured or produced in “illegal settlements” or in the “illegally occupied West Bank,” making sure to include not only the Israeli manufacturers but also where their goods are sold in Irish stores.
But the Irish Times goes further than the call for a boycott of goods manufactured in the West Bank.

For those advocating a boycott of Irish goods.I would ask at the moment you please don’t. We are a pro Israel group in Ireland.
The best action you can do,is write to the Irish Times to complain. Write to the Irish Ambassador in your country to complain.
Write to the owners of the Irish companies such as Magners or Guinness and say that if Ireland starts to boycott Israeli goods,You will boycott them also.
We are not all blinded by Israel hatred here in Ireland

There’s no point contacting the Irish Times. A better approach would be to put pressure on their advertisers. Honest Reporting should compile and publish a list of all advertisers – say, for the past three months – and invite readers to let those companies (and their ad agencies) know that their campaign in the Irish Times is being interpreted as support for anti-semitism and terrorism, and risks loss of sales. I’ve worked in the ad business and seen this happen before: some advertisers (particularly larger international brands) will freak out at this kind of attention, and they will make their displeasure known to the Irish Times. Hit them where it hurts.

I full agree,
Honest Reporting should contact the Irish Times advertisers to ask do they support this sort of racist boycotts.
Though I do feel HR should make a complaint to the Press Ombudsman in Ireland.

I’m very disappointed that the Irish Times is
so uninformed as to the TRUE facts regarding the
so called “Palestinians” Jewish people always referred to the land. as Palestine, the Jewish name. Just prior to the 1948 war, the UN
changed the name to Israel from Palestine
and. the Arabs then started to use the name.
Please learn the history of the area before you boycott innocent people and side with terrorists

I am afraid it is not only the Irish Times that is ignorant of the history of Israel – the BBC has been guilty of deplorably dishonest reporting.

How DARE you use such down right racist language. I am so offended as an irish zionist. Shame on you and I really hope HR will remove your comment.
Israel makes billions from trade each year with the Gentiles, Israel gets a lot of support from the “gentiles”.
If someone said the same comment but swapped Jew for Gentile you would be screaming anti Semitism. Shame Shame Shame on you

Israel should ban every country that bans her. Unfortunately, politicians have made their mind regardless what their nations think. They have to learn hard way. I know that many people do not support their government’s decisions about Israel, but majority of them has stayed silent. As long as they are good, they don’t care what is happening elsewhere. Yes they are people here in Ireland that love and support Israel, but I believe that more has to happen to turn Ireland and world around.

My husband and myself have gone on every walk organised by Friends of Israel here in Dublin. We are proud to hold the Irish and Israeli flags. It is not our fault that a (hopefully small) minority are hateful bigots.

Well, God bless Eithne Lalor and her companions (truly – not meant facetiously). She gives me hope for the status of Ireland in general vis-a-vis the view from most of us that Ireland is heavily anti-Israel. So, what do we do? Most of Europe is heavily anti-Israel, but there are individuals who are very pro-Israel. So to go tit-for-tat and boycott their products is overwhelmingly ineffective and harms good people like Ms. Lalor. But writing letters to the Irish Times is a waste of time and will not result in any change on their part. No real answer, but to thank the good-hearted people everywhere like Ms. Lalor. So…thank you for your support and God bless you.

A Jewish Boycott
A short time ago, Iran’s Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Ali Khomenei urged
the Muslim World to boycott anything and everything that originates with
the Jewish people.
In response, Meyer M. Treinkman, a pharmacist, out of the kindness of his
heart, offered to assist them in their boycott as follows:
“Any Muslim who has Syphilis must not be cured by Salvarsan discovered by
a Jew, Dr. Ehrlich. He should not even try to find out whether he has
Syphilis, because the Wasserman Test is the discovery of a Jew. If a Muslim
suspects that he has Gonorrhea, he must not seek diagnosis, Because he will be
using the method of a Jew named Neissner.
There is much much mor

Please go one step further. Why not boycott everything that Jews had anything to do with? For comprehensive list please visit http://www.JIFO.org. But don’t use the Internet. After all Jews had something to do with its development. And forget about Google. Jews had something to do with that too.

I was outraged when I noted that the Irish Times is calling for a boycott of Israel. My husband and I had planned a trip to Ireland which I have always wanted to visit. We buy Irish goods. When I first read the comments supporting Israel I thought “well these people are Jewish” but then I saw comments from Irish people who are not anti-semitic and are asking us not to respond by boycotting Ireland. Please Irish friends of Israel — you are the ones who need to stand up for Israel in your country. Israel is a land surrounded by enemies trying to defend itself from terrorists. Why would the Irish Times want to boycott the only democratic country in the mideast?

We in Canada had a local Provincial Member of Parliament organize a boycott of a poor non-Jewish shoe store who sold Israel shoes (Teva, Naot etc.) The Jewish community rallied by organizaing a “Buycott!” they made the media by out-numbering the protesters and by being able to get the message across about Israel being the only democracy in the mid-east that paid fair wages, the technology that Israel has brought to the world etc. I also seem to recall that the Lord High Mayor of Dublin was Jewish wasn’t he?
So to Israel’s friends in Ireland take a look at the BDS materials and use it against them by organizing a “Buycott” of Israeli products. Offer discounts to Irish travellers whoetc.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Boycotting Israel will do more harm to you than to Israel.
Think before you begin.
In your news paper a lot of Arab/Muslim loving people must be working. Why don’t you boycott all the Arab countries who are behaving like animals to their own people.
You are all brainwashed , but against the disease of anti-Semitism is no cure.
I pity you.
