Joe Hyams, CEO
Joe Hyams is London born and educated, with a background in Media & Marketing Communications. He is a former Strategic Planner for Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising in Tel Aviv serving international clients including Ford, Ikea and Proctor & Gamble. Connecting his media know-how to a desire to improve Israel’s image abroad, Joe made Aliyah, joining HonestReporting in 2005. He trains Israel supporters the world over in the identification of media bias and effective responses in the digital age and directs the organization’s growth and operations from Jerusalem. He is a regular guest speaker for Israel Mission delegations, student groups and community leadership seminars. He has lectured to Jewish Federations, AIPAC National Policy Conference, The Annual Herzliya Conference, as well as school and community events across the USA, South America, Australia, Hong Kong as well as from home base – the Jerusalem Headquarters of HonestReporting.
Joe holds a Masters degree and an MBA in non-profit management from the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program & The Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
Simon Plosker, Managing Editor
With overall responsibility for HonestReporting’s content and output, Simon joined the HonestReporting team in November 2005 following several years working in a variety of non-profit organizations, including the Jewish Agency and the Board of Deputies of British Jews prior to immigrating to Israel in 2001 from London.
In Israel, Simon has worked for BICOM and as Managing Editor of NGO Monitor as well as serving for a short period in the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. Simon has been published in the Jerusalem Post, YNet News, The Times of Israel, The Commentator, The Algemeiner, and has appeared on a variety of media outlets including BBC World Service, Sky News, Revelation TV and Israel Broadcasting Authority English News to name but a few.
Simon has a BSoc.Sc in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Birmingham and a MSc in History of International Relations from the London School of Economics.
Julie Hazan worked most recently in communications and fundraising development at the Moise Safra Center in NYC, after spending six years at The Israel Project, both in Washington DC and in Jerusalem. Her prior work included extensive research focusing on European media coverage of Israel and the Middle East as well as work with Fonds Social Juif Unifié (FSJU) in Marseille, where she was responsible for organizing events involving experts in the field of Israel advocacy. Julie’s expertise includes fundraising and philanthropic activities, community development, communications strategy for Europe and the United States, as well as interaction with journalists, industry experts and government officials throughout Europe.
Julie studied law and completed a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications at the University of Marseille and received a master’s degree in public management with a focus in European and international public affairs at the University of Aix en Provence.
A native of France and a current New Yorker, Julie is excited to be at HonestReporting where she engages both her skill at community development and philanthropy as well as her passion for Israel and media.
Jerry Glazer, Senior Manager, Finance, Payroll and Personnel
Jerry Glazer is a US CPA, with extensive senior finance management experience in the US, Israel and Europe. In his former role as a KPMG Audit Senior Manager, Jerry managed the portfolios of several large, well-acclaimed not-for-profits. In addition to the above, Jerry served as the Director of Financial Controls at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Upon relocating to Israel in 2005, Jerry served as senior financial manager in several sectors, including real estate, publishing and not-for-profits. Jerry joined the HonestReporting team in 2015. In his spare time, he dabbles in the Escape Room arena.
Jerry received a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University where he graduated with honors.
Suzanne Lieberman, Missions and Events Coordinator
Originally from the North East of England, Suzanne has been living in Israel since 1990. Having worked for several major companies in the UK including Coca-Cola, Brook Street and various tour operators, she joined HonestReporting in 2004, bringing her marketing and business experience to play in planning and running high-end advocacy Missions for donors and supporters. Additionally, Suzanne is involved in public relations and financial management for the organization, utilizing her varied skills accumulated over a 30 year working history, to help ensure the smooth running of the organization.
Pesach Benson, Deputy Managing Editor
A Baltimore native, Pesach joined HonestReporting’s staff in 2001. He edits the Israel Daily News Stream and authored the e-book, Red Lines: HonestReporting’s 8 Categories of Media Bias.
Before moving to Israel in 1995, he worked as a reporter for the Baltimore Jewish Times. Pesach has a B.A. in political science from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, where he was executive editor of the campus newspaper. He is also a part-time copy editor for the Times of Israel.
Pesach lives in Jerusalem with his wife and children.
Daniel Pomerantz, Senior Editor
Daniel began his career as an attorney in the United States where he worked for high profile law firms in New York and Chicago before starting his own law practice. Daniel’s work as a business lawyer led him eventually to the world of publishing and communications where he held positions such as Executive Editor and Chief Executive Officer. Meanwhile, in 2011 Daniel’s passion for Israel led him to make Aliya, and finally, in 2016, Daniel arrived at HonestReporting, where he combines his commitment to fairness and analytical thought with his love for communications and his dedication to Israel.
Zahava Raymond, Associate Editor
Zahava is originally from London and moved to Israel in 2014. She has a degree in Writing for Media from London South Bank University. As part of that degree, in an exam on media ethics she researched and wrote an essay proving the media’s bias against Israel, using HonestReporting’s analysis.
She has previously worked at United Synagogue in London and NGO Monitor in Israel.
With a background in writing combined with her dedication to Israel, she joined HonestReporting in 2016.
Tamara Stern, HonestReporting Brazil Editor
Walter is a Franco-Chilean from Paris who made aliya to Israel in 2013. He served for two years in the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit where he managed the IDF’s social media platforms in French. Walter was awarded the prestigious Heseg Scholarship for former lone soldiers with excellent army records, and is currently studying for a B.A. in Government at IDC Herzliya. Walter joined HR in 2016 to create HonestReporting France.
Bentzi Binder, Lead Designer
Bentzi is HR’s graphic designer and digital developer. He manages the design materials, branding assets, print products, website and email code, so that the look and feel of HR’s brand is cohesive and professional. He specializes in typography and creative design for digital and traditional mediums while adapting them to all platforms. Bentzi grew up in Jerusalem, served in the IDF Givati combat infantry brigade and graduated with honors from the Design of Visual Communications Department of Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) and from Hadassah College in Jerusalem. He lives in Jerusalem with his wife.
Oded Ben-Josef, Webmaster and I.T. Manager
Oded is responsible for all technical aspects of the HonestReporting website, other media channels, and office software/hardware systems. He has over a decade of experience as a database, internet and application programmer.
Gershon Lewis, Special Funding Campaigns and Major Gifts
Gershon Lewis graduated summa cum laude at the University of California at Santa Barbara where he studied Political Science and was involved in various political campaigns and student government. He went on to get a law degree from UCLA, where he was on the law review. He has spent more than 25 years raising funds for several Jewish organizations.
