In an interview, the Irish Examiner paraphrases Israel’s new ambassador to Dublin, Zeev Boker:

Israel’s government, most ministries and the Knesset are located in its capital Jerusalem. It’s safe to assume that Ambassador Boker would not have referenced Tel Aviv when discussing potential Israeli government policies.

Therefore the Irish Examiner appears to have taken upon itself to imply that Tel Aviv is Israel’s capital city, which is, of course, factually incorrect, as well as misrepresenting the ambassador’s words.

While this appears in an Irish media outlet, HonestReporting set an important precedent as far back as 2012 when we forced the UK’s Guardian to acknowledge that Tel Aviv was not Israel’s capital and this is something that we have pursued whenever we’ve seen this error appear in the media.

We’ve contacted the Irish Examiner to ask for a correction. Watch this space.
