Monday, May 22nd, 2017 – Welcome to Jerusalem

– Check-in to Mamilla Hotel, and explore the luxury facilities, including pool, gym and health spa.

– Welcome reception and introductions at Eucalyptus. Situated in the Artist Quarter of the city, moments away from the magnificent walls of old Jerusalem, this is one of the most memorable restaurants one can visit and the perfect setting to start our week together.

 

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 – Jerusalem in the Center of the Conflict

– Half-day field trip to explore the political, religious and strategic environment of Israel’s capital city, with  Col. (Ret.) Miri Eisin, former spokesperson for the Prime Minister.   

Lunch at the iconic Cafe Rimon bistro, in the heart of Jerusalem, with Guest Speaker, Deputy Minister for Diplomacy in the Prime Minister’s Office,   Michael Oren, Former ambassador to the United States, Author of “Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East”

– Visit MediaCentral, Israel’s premier bureau for overseas correspondents.

“What is being done to encourage accuracy in reporting among the foreign press?”Jonny Perl, Head of MediaCentral. Former editor for the Knesset television channel and Channel Two TV news

The Six-Day War: Before and After – the Forgotten Story – Ben-Dror Yemini, Prominent Israeli commentator and Yediot Aharonot columnist.

“Are most foreign correspondents biased against Israel?”  – Simon Plosker, HR’s Managing Editor discusses the challenge of fighting anti-Israel media bias.

Jerusalem Day – Walk in the path of Israel’s heroes of the 6-Day War; spend  the evening celebrating Jerusalem Day in a uniquely Israeli style.

 

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017 – The Evolution of Warfare in the Arab-Israeli Conflict

– Full-day field trip where we will be examining the evolvement of warfare tactics over the past 50 years with Elliot Chodoff, Military Analyst, IDF Major (Res.). Included in our itinerary will be:

  • Tour the Armored Corps Memorial Site and Museum at Latrun, Israel‘s official memorial site for fallen soldiers from the armored corps, as well as one of the most diverse tank museums in the world
  • Travel north to Tel Faher, site of a heavy infantry battle in the Six-Day War
  • Receive a VIP briefing from the head of Israel’s drone program in the IDF
  • Picnic lunch in the stunning north of Israel
  • Visit an IDF intelligence base: meet some of our soldiers involved in intelligence training, and receive a briefing on how the military combats terror through cyber-warfare techniques.
  • Overview of prominent terror organizations and what the future will hold.
  • Dinner overlooking the Mediterranean sea.

 

Thursday, May 25th, 2017 – Jerusalem: Modern Zionism and Jewish Roots

Leave for the new Herzl Museum, which includes a spectacular audio-visual encounter with the visionary of the Jewish State; visit the Herzl Cemetery, resting place of many great leaders of the nation  

– Buffet lunch at HonestReporting’s  International Headquarters in Jerusalem.

– Celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem with a fascinating, off-the-beaten-track walking tour, beginning with a behind-the-scenes briefing at City Hall with Fleur Hassan-Nahum, one of Jerusalem’s prominent political advocates, and culminating with a fascinating subterranean historical experience, in the Western Wall tunnels, under Jerusalem’s ancient streets and alleyways. Our guide Patrick Amar, will bring Jerusalem’s thousands of years of history to life.

– Dinner at Between the Arches a unique, ancient subterranean cistern, converted into an upscale restaurant, underneath the Old City of Jerusalem.

Friday, May 26th, 2017 – “Are Settlements the Real Obstacle to Peace?”

– Field trip to explore what the media and international community claim to be the most explosive issue in the conflict, led by IDF Colonel (res.) Ben-Tzion “Bentzi” Gruber. Included in our itinerary will be:

  • Tour various communities within the disputed territories
  • Learn about the history and unique challenges of the region
  • Hear from both settlers and those opposed to settlement in the disputed territories
  • Lunch and shopping in one of Israel’s famous boutique wineries

– Free afternoon to prepare for Shabbat.

– Join HonestReporting staff and their families for a traditional Shabbat dinner, with soldiers and other special friends, excited to spend Friday night dinner with you.

 

 

Saturday (Shabbat)*, May 27th, 2017 – Palestinian/Israel Relations

– Free morning to enjoy Shabbat in Jerusalem.  Optional Shabbat morning services (options available from hotel concierge).

“Is it dangerous to tell the truth about the PA?” – Khaled Abu Toameh, Award winning Israeli Arab journalist, reporting on the Palestinian territories.

“A Complex Relationship: Christians in the Holy Land”Re. Dr. Petra Heldt, Lutheran Minister living and working in Jerusalem for over 20 years.

– Buffet-style supper at the Mamilla Hotel.

–  “Reporting on Terror: Shifting trends in the media industry” – Jordana Miller, TV reporter for i24 News,  and radio correspondent for ABC News.

– Havdalah – bringing the Shabbat to a close in the traditional way.

Sunday, May 28th, 2017- Israel’s Smart Response in a Brutish World

 

– Full day field trip to the Negev region with Daniel Rubenstein, Israeli tour guide and a key architect of  the IDF’s communications strategy during Operations Pillar of Defence and Protective Edge.  Included in our itinerary will be:

 

  • Visit Tze’elim IDF Base, hosting a large Urban Warfare Training Center built to resemble a crowded Middle Eastern-style city
  • Visit Netiv Haasara on the Gaza border and gain an in-depth understanding of the history of Israel’s complex relationship with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and learn how Israelis living in the border region have tried to maintain a normal life while living under very stressful conditions.
  • Light lunch in Beersheba
  • Exclusive access to Israel’s brand-new Cyber-park, showcasing the latest in Israel’s hi-tech and entrepreneurship.
  • Dinner at B’Chatzer Shel Ora (Ora’s Yard) An original Yemenite meal in a beautiful orchard. Polish-born Reuven and his Yemen-born wife, Ora, whose remarkable story mirrors that of the State of Israel. The visit includes a tour of their 120 trees, including over 80 different species, some of them quite rare and exotic.

 

 

Monday, May 29th, 2017 – Remembering the Past; Looking to the Future

 

– VIP visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to receive briefings and updates from Israeli diplomats and senior policy makers regarding Israel’s relationships with the Arab world, Iran and beyond.  

– Time for shopping and check-out for those leaving today (rooms to be vacated by 12.30pm)

– Light lunch at Mamilla Hotel.

“The Legal Status of Judea & Samaria 50 years later” Professor Eugene Kontorovich, head of the International Law Department at the Kohelet Policy Forum, a Jerusalem-based think tank.

– “How can you win any debate about Israel in 2 minutes?”Neil Lazarus, Director of AwesomeSeminars.com, leads a workshop on practical Israel advocacy training.

“Looking Back, Looking Forward – Where do we grow from here?”Joe Hyams, CEO, HonestReporting

Closing dinner and remarks at Kedma Brasserie, in the Mamilla mall, featuring a high-level dining experience with breathtaking view of the Jaffa Gate, the Dormition Abbey and the Tower of David.
