Did anyone else notice the bizarre statement in the NYT’s story that Israel’s government seeks “to discredit what they argue is bias and error” [in "human rights' organizations reports]?
Gee, Israel seeks to discredit bias and error? The implication, thus, is that the alleged paper of record, the NYT, supports “bias and error” along with the UN, the EU and other anti-Israel, anti-human rights organizations.
The NYT has unwittingly revealed (which is what the unconscious does) its longstanding practice of supporting and reporting stories full of “bias and error” when it comes to smearing and denigrating Israel. That decent organizations and-finally- the govt. of Israel is exposing, condemning and correcting the “bias and error” endemic in the mainstream media and EU-funded NGO’s, in their coverage of Israel is praiseworthy. It is certainly telling that the NYT condemns such exposure of bias and error. Knowing how long the NYT supported the reporting of its Pulitzer-prize winning NYT reporter, Walter Duranty, despite learning that every single one of his laudatory articles on Stalin and the USSR was filled with deceptions, distortions and outright lies, we shouldn’t be surprised by the NYT’s similar reporting on Israel. It’s still sad for those of us who used to read and enjoy the paper. Aware, now, that the NYT’s reporting of world (and domestic) affairs can’t be trusted, I, for one, can no longer trust even its restaurant and movie reviews. I’ve long since quit reading their book reviews. Now, I don’t read the Paper, at all. Not even online, where it’s free. Apparently, I’m not alone in this. The Paper’s ad revenue and circulation figures reportedly are in the toilet – wherein they keep company with the quality of the Paper’s reporting and editorializing on Israel.

You’re confusing two different instances of HRW’s sockpuppetry that were discussed in the same post at Harry’s Place. The pro-Garlasco sock puppets (Dash F, Tom K, Sara and Sue) are on a far different mission than was “Zayed Salloum,” the “fake ‘activist’ with a Middle Eastern sounding name” referred to in the article you linked, who was posting comments about gay political activism, “a couple of years ago.”

It never surprises me anymore that when Gaza or the area known as West Bank and even more the Syrian Controlled Lebanon barely get press as they toss rockets into Israel. When Israel defends itself, it is a CRISIS beyond understanding. Why are people in the media so critical of defending oneself? We in the USA are fighting two wars currently, losing soldiers daily at times, and we are not critical that the people of Afghanistan nor Iraq have any rights at all. I do not condone violence such as September 11, 2001, nore the earlier bombing of the Trade towers during the Bush Sr. Presidency. The US cole attacked with no one to “attack” back in the papers. There was no response by the media that would state the oil controlling interests in the Middle East is the biggest terrorist organization in the world. When will this end? Israel has as much right to defend itself as the US does and as Britain does. Why are we so critical publicly then only of Israel?

    Dr. Ken Price:
you should write a letter to the editor at the Times pointing this out.
Would be interesting to see if they print it.

we all support Israel’s right to exists…but we ought to make an effort to stay real on the issue of human rights.
avrum burg who used to be the speaker of the Knesset and was head of the WZC and the JA is critical of both sides during the gaza war.
The war brought a lot of international criticism. About 1,400 people died and accusations of possible war crimes have been levelled against both the Israeli military and the Palestinian militant groups in Gaza, notably Hamas.
Let’s not destroy our own credibility by omitting important elements of the story.
It’s not like Goldstone is a Palestinian or a nazi.

What do you think would be the NY Times’ reaction if a human rights group monitoring African Americans sacked one of its experts for collecting Ku Klux Klan memorabilia?

    Dr. Price and Myackie,
Good comments. As for Dr. Price appearing in the NYT. The odds are slim to none for 2 reasons:1. He is pro-Israel and the Times makes it a practice to give the illusion that the pro and anti Israel sentiment is 50/50 and that means if you write a pro-Israel letter your odds are much less. 2. If he gives his address as NY, they are much less inclined to publish. Take a look at any issue and you’ll see what I mean.
As for your decision to cancel your subscription…while I do sympathize and have felt the urge to cancel frequently, I continue to receive it only so I’ll know what they are saying and how I can rebut the articles when talking with others. Frankly and sadly, they do pose a great influence. We can’t be like ostriches and put our heads in the sand. That said, sometimes I just can’t bring myself to read some of their articles such as the one about J Street. I was on my way to lunch and didn’t want to ruin my appetite.

Avrum Burg? He’s a flippin’ joke! First of all, he helped write that fantasy called the Geneva Accords, which everyone knows is impossible to implement, lest Israel wish to commit suicide. Second, Burg has the chutzpah to call Israel “paranoid,” claiming that the Jewish people have viruses of Nazism! I think it is entirely appropriate to call him a Uncle Hymie. To see what exactly I am getting at, here is his interview with Ari Shavit: http://www.zionism-israel.com/israel_news/2007/06/avram-burgs-case-against-israel.html

The Human Rights Council has dealt a blow to all governments seeking to defend their citizens from terrorist attacks.
The Human Rights Council has annulled centuries of international law – it has announced: “Terrorism Pays!”
In its zeal to attack Israel, the Human Rights Council has undermined the basic right of all states to self defense.

The recent UN report by Judge Goldstone should be considered in the light of the British experience of nazi flying bombs and v2 rockets from Peenemunde, in the later months of WW2, raining down on London which is similar to the attacks of mortars and rockets on Israel from Gaza.
I seem to recall that our retaliation against German cities such as Dresden was by killing 100s of thousands of Germans located in those cities by incendiary bombs. I cannot recall that both the enemy and the British were charged in an International court after the war, as has been suggested by the noble Judge should happpen to the Gazans and the Israelis.
Bomber Harris never received a knighthood like his service contemporaries. Also it should be noted that this disproportionate retaliation was only after 6 years of war, and not the Israeli experience of over 60 years and for many years before the State was created against settlers.
