Rachel Corrie: Media Issue Their Own Verdicts

August 28, 2012 15:09 by

An Israeli court has ruled against a civil action taken by the family of International Solidarity Movement activist Rachel Corrie. According to an Israeli judge:

This was a very unfortunate accident and not an action undertaken with intent… The deceased put herself into a dangerous situation, standing in front of a large bulldozer in a place where the operator could not see her. She did not distance herself as a reasonable person would have done.

Corrie’s death, he said, was “the result of an accident she brought upon herself.”

Unsurprisingly, the verdict has made international news. The inappropriate headline of the day goes to the Daily Telegraph:

Contrary to the headline, it was not Israel absolving itself of all blame but the very credible and thorough Israeli legal system which had examined the case in great detail. There are plenty of times when Israeli judges have ruled against the state or the IDF and there is no reason to believe that the judge in this case did not come to his conclusions without prejudice.

This wasn’t enough, however, to stop Jon Snow, the UK Channel 4′s top news presenter from describing the verdict as “grim”:

Is Jon Snow expressing his distaste for the verdict? If so, perhaps he should stick to reporting the news rather than passing his own judgments.

Rachel Corrie even became part of a “cycle of violence” according to The Guardian. This part of Harriet Sherwood’s report stood out:

At the time – the height of the second intifada, or Palestinian uprising – house demolitions were common, part of an increasing cycle of violence from both sides. Palestinian suicide bombers were causing death and destruction with terrifying frequency; the Israeli military was using its mighty force and weaponry to crush the uprising.

So, according to The Guardian’s Harriet Sherwood, house demolitions to prevent Palestinian weapons smuggling fall into the same category as blowing up Israeli buses or cafes; Israeli measures to protect its civilian population are of the same moral equivalence as the Palestinian terrorism that deliberately targeted Israeli civilians; the death of Rachel Corrie in a tragic accident no different to the deaths of Israeli victims of terror.

And all of this as part of a “cycle of violence”.

The “Times of Israel” reported that the bulldozer was clearing vegetation at the time of the accident. Yet Harriet Sherwood wrote that Corrie was blocking a bulldozer trying to demolish a home. Which was correct? Obviously, blocking a bulldozer to save a home is far more compelling than trying to save some weeds. I’m curious which version is accurate.

Joseph Smith, Corrie’s trainer and fellow ISM members doctored the photograph of her standing in front of a house supposedly about to be demolished. Corrie herself was involved in making forged footage for “Palestinian” propaganda videos when she and Smith retrieved dead bodies for the purpose. Ironic that Corrie ended up being one of the dead bodies for the same purpose of propaganda. Useful idiot she was, but not naive or innocent.

The party who lured “goody-two-shoes” Corrie to Gaza, the ISM, is culpable. ISM needs to be charged with her death. Hamas, who then succeeded in manipulating the mind of a 20-somthing naive american girl-let into standing in front of the bull-dozer, is culpable. Hamas needs to be charged with her death. Nobody has researched what role UNRWA played in her death. Corrie is dead, for a “lost useless cause”. No amount of suing the IDF/State of Israel by her jewish parents is going to bring her back. Her parents should be teaching other young 20-somethings how to make decide whether to go to Gaza and help the nonstate tribal arabs get something that doesn’t belong to them!

Her father is an American. The BBC had an even more biaised report on the 6.00 news this evening from Gaza fan Jon Donnison. At least this time they interviewed an Israeli, but it was Mark Regev, the official spokesperson, not an Israeli jurist or someone who could explain what happened.

It is terribly unfortunate that Rachel Corrie died. It is even more unfortunate that she died in attempt to protect a building from a bulldozer. Heavy equipment is dangerous at all times – just look at the construction site accidents.
However, I find it interesting that people, such as Ms. Corrie, will put themselves at risk to save a house, but I don’t recall any of them standing in front of a bus full of Israeli children to stop terrorist-murderers. By their misguided actions it is obvious that to them Palestinian bricks are more valued than the lives of Jewish children.

Unfortunate for the driver of that military bulldozer. The accident was entirely predictable when Corrie and her ISM buddies had been playing chicken with the heavy machinery all morning feeling secure in the knowledge that had the driver stepped out of the bulldozer to stop her, he would have been shot by one of the Arab snipers. All part of their game. Joseph Smith, Corrie’s ISM trainer and buddy commented that her death was worthwhile to further the cause. Not being terribly bright she became their tool.

There are journalists peppered with bullets in Syria, tragically killed, while doing their jobs. I don’t know if their deaths were preventable, but noone is even asking the question, or investigating, their deaths are just accepted as tragic accidents. Even if Correy’s death was preventable, why is the method of protesting not being questioned? Would Israel ever allow people to protest by standing out in front of bomb shelters in the firing line of rockets? Even if you regard this as a “cycle of violence”, logic would dictate that protesters for the other side should stand in the firing line of snipers and rockets and ask the media to join them and film it. Clearly, this would be acknowledged as insane by both sides, as these activists’ actions are insane. It’s one thing to want to help the Palestenians, to support their cause, but what sort of an organization trains activists in the skills to be unprotected human shields, while the people they are trying to protect have access to weapons?

I wonder how honest the press really is in this matter (yes, I kid). Where are the photos of dear Rachel just days before in full Arab garb being rabid while showing children how to burn an American flag? Or her writings hoping for the fall and destruction of the USA?

But all is forgotten and forgiven. She died and it isn’t her fault, nor that of the ISM nor the terrorists she was protecting. She had to protect the fig grove and the house scheduled for destruction because, oh, its part of a weapons smuggling network. Blame Israel!

That she acted stupidly, jumping in front of a bulldozer, that she was clumsly and fell is not the fault of the Israelis. Her own undoing. Her blame.

Rachel Corrie stood in the way of the job the men had to do, She wasn’t even an Israeli and had no right to stand in their way which they probably couldn’t see her any way. It was not her right to be in the midst of the frey. If a car is coming you get out of the way and don’[t wait to be hit.
Even the Arabs will run when the Israeli are responding to the rock throwing and flag burning. Rachel Corrie stood there and said *I dare you.

Perhaps if Rachel Corrie had read the pitiful historical renditions of how the Jews suffered by the hands of Arabs for hundred of years prior to the return of Israel – see the book “The Silent Exodus,” maybe, just maybe her mindset may not have been in favour of Islamic fanatics – Live by the sword, etc., etc. Remember the collaboration of the grand mufti and Nazi Germany, nothing has changed, it has just become more extreme, spreading like Disney’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia! – the trouble is that the rest of the world will be sucked in to the Arab lie to everyone’s detriment!

I sent Momment magazine an expose of Rachel Corrie as an assistant terrorist. Anyone that wants a copy can contact me. She never had done anything fo any Arabs or anyone else. Her motivation was not to help Arabs but to hurt Israel’ and by that all Jewish People.

Who paid for her 5000 mile trip to Israel? Who made her housing, feeding and travel arrangement once there.?

The Israeli government could nnot punish suicide bombers. They had to resort to knocking down the houses of their families who celebrated their mass murders and received $25,000.00 bonuses.

Her aim was to keep Israeli’s from making any attempt to discourage future suicide bombers.

Of all the powerful institutions on the planet, unfortunately the media is no 1, and there is really no close second. People with deep gripes in life turn to various means. Drugs come to mind, and so does being sucked in by media propaganda. Israel is the greatest country in the world for a number of practical reasons. Whatever her gripes were, RC would most likely be alive today if she embraced Israel and stood for peace among all nations. May the media institution suffer a short swift destruction for the betterment of mankind.

Where is the concern for the millions of ppl on this plant that are really suffering? Where is the voice of the UN (an arab pandering org that is funded by all of us in the west, and should be DISMANTLED.

If it was just about helping Palestinians, she could’ve gone to any number of refugee camps all over the middle east where Palestinians are treated as second class citizens. Perhaps she may even have questioned why Palestinians are still in refugee camps in ARAB countries after 60 years. But she chose to fight the Israeli military instead. She aligned herself with the people and government whose aim is to delegitimize, and ultimately destroy the Jewish homeland. Naively, she may have fought for human rights of the Palestinians but she undoubtedly fought against human rights of the Jewish people.

Face it: bashing Israel is trendy. Don’t know why; it’s sad, sickening, & true. Of all the causes Rachel Corrie could’ve adopted, she obsessed on propagandists who portray themselves as the biggest victims in the history of civilization. She defended a society that adores terrorists and teaches its kids to hate & kill. I must conclude (having never met her, but having met her type) she was misled. What a shame her altruistic nature skirted more deserving peoples, in order to back a group that Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria support, while secretly wishing they never had to see another obnoxious Palestinian. The propaganda must be exposed at its source, to prevent future R.C. tragedy.

    Altruistic?!?!?
Nope. She was a proven Jew hating, Israel denying drone of the left. Altruism had nothing to do with her actions. Faking pictures, burning her own country’s flag etc are not altruistic acts; they are anarchist actions, and anarchist are all about THEMSELVES.

RC that pig didn’t give a shit about palis; all she had in her heart was hatred for Israel. I hope her mentors and parents read these comments.

I did say she was misguided. Her head was probably full of B.S. like Jews committing genocide against the “defenseless” Palestinians, starving children, political prisoners, shooting pregnant women at checkpoints, poisoning wells, ethnic cleansing… all lies I constantly see posted on the internet and Muslim websites. People like Corrie rarely seem to ask themselves, “With Israel under the microscope like no other nation in history, if any of these horrible allegations were true, wouldn’t there be proof? Where are the mass graves, photos of stick thin kids, Youtube videos of laughing soldiers shooting at women and children?” Such things only exist in the minds of propagandists & fools.

Gary, you hit the nail on the head!

But it’s not about veracity. It’s about an agenda of Israel denial that has been a cause du jour of the left, aided and abetted by media peons. The truth is simply an inconvenience in the minds of the left, and not something they would ever entertain.

Fingers in ears, lalalalala, and push forward with the fantasy laden tripe.

M, lots of people on the Left are pro-Israel. Of course, the Left also has more than its share of people who think they are experts on the conflict, yet have lost their moral compass. It’s maddening; many people gravitate towards the Palestinian narrative because they consider them underdogs. Of course, Israel, surrounded by enemies and terrorists, has always been the true underdog. The apologists for Palestinian terror waste more energy criticizing an IDF soldier for giving a stone thrower a swift kick in the butt than they would ever expend condemning a bus bombing. They whine about the Judiazation of Jerusalem (all religions welcome), but have no problem with Mecca (Muslims only).

Rachel Corrie died because she was stupid and naive. It is very sad for her parents to have lost a child and I am sure that the driver of the bulldozer that struck her is not happy with the situation but fact…….she should not have been where she was, the ISM and the people on the ground in Gaza or where ever it was that she was killed are the ones who should take the responsibility of her death. I don’t see any of them being blamed. When are these niave young people going to realize that they are propaganda fodder for the so called Palestinians. The ISM welcomed her death because it brought the media, without her death they were just people being stupid! When is the world going to wakeup

I met the father of Tom Hurndall another self-inflicted “victim” and enthusiastic pawn of the ISM. I told him to his face that his son deserved to die and was entirely responsible for his own death. He did not answer me but I suspect he may have come to realise this. He is estranged from his wife who wrote an enthusiastic book about her son, and Tom’s sister Rachel works for an organisation that calls itself Medical Aid for the Palestinians which is just a front for channelling funds to terrorists. Tom’s family cannot continue to exploit the media because the unfortunate Israeli sniper who killed Tom is serving a jail sentence, if he had been a Palestinian he would have gotten off scott free
