Scene from a “peace rally”

December 4, 2003 12:42 by

Many Americans are shocked by the villification of Israel and the Jewish people in continental Europe, England and around the world. But it’s happening the US, too.

A concerned BackSpin reader and photographer from the San Francisco area sent us a picture she snapped at the February 16, 2003 anti-war protest there. This is the placard prominently displayed by the main organizers of the rally, International A.N.S.W.E.R.:

All the historical anti-Semitic images are here: Money-hungry Jews employing Satan to run the world…and he’s even got a swastika.

History, it seems, is repeating itself. As we noted in our March communique on this topic, “In the 1930s, when anti-Semitism was both pervasive and respectable in America, Charles Lindbergh and his America-Firsters blamed Jewish interests for trying to drag America into a pointless war with Germany.” (The Economist)

I just cannot believe this was on an American street. Am I naive?

I am speechless beyond words. I’m practically paralysed in shock and fury.
    This is INSANE.

Some people haven’t done their history homework. What? Let them come over here and terrorize everyone again?
