SUCCESS: Sunday Times Removes Doctored Iranian Photo

July 10, 2012 12:50 by

Only a few days ago, we called out The Sunday Times for using the following photo to illustrate a story on Iran:

The photo above was a doctored version of the one below, created by Iran’s Republican Guard for propaganda purposes and to cover up a misfiring missile. All of this had been exposed at the time the photo was taken in 2008 causing AFP to retract it.

Read the full details of the case here.

We asked why The Sunday Times had republished an already retracted and doctored Iranian photo. This was the response:

This success comes hot on the heels of The Independent’s removal of a staged photo that HonestReporting also exposed in the past week.

Photo bias and Fauxtography is a serious issue, as highlighted by our in-depth Shattered Lens study.

That both The Sunday Times and Independent have chosen to quietly replace the photos without any acknowledgment of their original errors is telling.

HonestReporting will continue to expose this form of media bias and we thank our readers for taking action and getting results.

The world media, written, spoken and illustrated,
is operating under the constant threat of
retalliation from the Arab countries it reports
on. Israel on the other hand allows free press,
in war and in quiet times. In order to to be seen
favourably by the Arab countries, Israel’s enemies, they, the media, resorts to staged reporting including doctored photos that are showing Israel in a very distorted bad way. It
has been so for so long, it no longer matters
and we hope that the truth will prevail at the
end when the readers and listeners and watchers
of such distorted reporting will turn against that
    media.

I have repeatedly stated that most of the Western media, (no need to apply it to the rest), and indeed Western governments too, act on terms dictated by OIL, PETRODOLLARS AND FEAR OF ARAB-MUSLIM terrorism. Fear encourages Arab threats and over-confidence, determination, show of force and powerful action deter them. We Israelis learnt this lesson the hard way, but with sheer fortitude. Don’t believe that appeasement will work! When will the world realise how to behave toward the extremist Islamic scourge?

Please do pay attention to the BBC World News’ “The Hub”, after flashing back and forth some of the cities of the world, the flashed image stops in “Islamabad”, zoomed at “Islam”. Even the name of the program, “Hub” is a typical Arab Muslim name. May be the editors are Pakistanis?!

The press needs watchdogs to eliminate forgery in the press.

Come clean “The Independent”. Fess up to your dishonest reporting.
