The Independent’s Stars and Stripes
April 30, 2006 14:39 by BackSpin EditorWe weren’t surprised that Robert Fisk of The Independent weighed in on Mearsheimer and Walt’s Harvard paper on Israeli influence over American foreign policy. But we have to wonder about the accompanying visual which prominently appeared on the front page of Independent Extra, the paper’s regular supplement. What does this say about the paper’s view of the controversy?

Israel can hardly be compared to a state in the United States of America. If it were a state, and the current situation in Gaza was being handled solely by the U.S. government, the Palestinian Hamas led government would be wiped out and toppled. Everyone who could be legitimately called a member would either be killed or taken prisoner. Remember…the United States of America is at war with Terrorist organizations of whom Hamas is a member. Israel, so far, has shown remarkable restraint. The USA would not be so kind.

Don’t even think it. It isn’t easy to be Jewish in the USA either.
