There is a fourth point. This young woman had and was continuing to receive top-flight medical care in an Israeli hospital. The media rarely if ever calls attention to the availability of that care to the Palestinians.

Sadly ,this incident shows once again, something I have been saying to my friends for years and anyone else who would listen, that the Palestinians are, and always have been, their own biggest enemies. Their circumstances are I agree, quite dire, but unfortunately for them, they have brought it on themselves: And this goes back to 1948 when they foolishly decided on war as opposed to accepting UN resolution 181 which required mutual recognition of both nations.

A further issue: the incredible biting of the hand that feeds you. This woman seeked to kill and maim the people giving her selfess medical care. That goes to further demonstrate the extreme, blind hatred that Palestinian society has inculcated in its young generation.

I beg to differ with the “excuse” part: “al-Biss said she was determined to carry out a suicide attack against Israel because of its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.”

All posted so far I agree with, with one caveat – Michael Stewart’s note says they brought it on themselves. I think the fault lies more with the Arab community than the Palestinians. And without the help of the Arab community, I do not believe the problem can be solved. The disease is too deeply ingrained in Palestinian society for them to do it alone, even with Western and Israeli help.

Also, many failed to note that she admitted that her plan was to blow herself up AT THE HOSPITAL.
Some articles I saw implied that her intention was only to detonate at the checkpoint.
Furthermore, some articles imply that the Israeli soldiers told her to remove articles of clothing to check her because of a mere suspicion, but that was actually after she had tried to detonate. She was removing her clothing only to take of the explosives so that they could detonate the explosives without blowing her up with them.
Also when news articles cited her claim that the explosives were planted on her without her knowledge, and that the Israelis say that she was lying, they fail to note that the explosives weighed 10 KG and that they were in her underwear.
See for example BBC at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4113538.stm
There the headline is simply stated as an Israeli claim, even though there is a video of her admitting it, and nobody has denied it.

Life is so very precious and so very short. Why can’t we live, love and be at peace? The earth is being destroyed by our disregard for life.
Be at peace. Let us look at the past and see what was truly lost! The entire universe belongs to the one that made it. What right does any of us
have, to claim a portion of it for ourselves? Instead, of war why not teach us peace, love and harmony? This will mean the difference in senseless
killings and living in harmony with laws given to us all be the MOST HIGH! Our fore Fathers did not learn this lesson either and look at where they are today! We relive the wars that took their lives and we continue to pass on that war to our offspring. Wisdom comes with the price of humility! Knowledge bares the burden of subdued power! What difference does it matter who wins, when there is nothing left? I know that my words may appear to be useless in the eyes of many, but these are not just empty words, Sarai Leah is a nine year old little girl born to an Nigerian father and an American black Jewish mother, who must journey to Israel to worship at the WALL. Upon her arrival there she will not have in mind to take one side or the other, but to worship the MOST HIGH GOD! There won’t be anymore parades of joy, video game arcades, instead she as with many other Jewish children are being prepared to live each day as if it were that last, due to the constant threats/acts of terror in the land.

It’s stories like this that really send me into a raging fit. Not so much at the Palestinians who are brain washed, but at the bleeding heart Israelis for given the murderess bitch medical treatment and not air dropping her (with bombs attached) into a terrist camp.
    That just don’t get it!

Underlying everything in this story is the fact that Palestinians and their supporters claim that the cause of this barbaric behaviour is Israel’s harsh military occupation.
But if the Palestine Authority honoured rather than violated its agreed commitments to arrest and disarm terrorists and to end incitement, they would go a long way towards ending the occupation. By doing otherwise they are perpetuating the misery of their people and preventing a peaceful solution to the conflict.

My other comment is that unfortunately the tale of Wafa al-Bas won’t ever see the light of day in many western media outlets.
In my home city of Melbourne our broadsheet newspaper the Age has a correspondent based in Jerusalem who brilliantly cherry picks his news stories. Unless they show Israel and its society in a bad light it’s of no value to him.
I have put good money on a bet that Mr. Ed O’Loughlin will not touch this story.

Here is another example of what you find the Media publishing for general knowledge.
    http://normblog.typepad.com/normblog/2005/05/for_those_who_n.html
    “For those who need treatment”
“The Israeli forces refused to be drawn into a situation which would likely have destroyed the Church and so a stalemate ensued. Hassan had been part of the group storming the Church and had taken a bullet in the initial fracas but his colleagues had refused to allow him out for 12 days. Only now had he been ‘released’ and here he was in my Emergency department.
I shrugged again, ‘let’s sort him out now and worry about that later’ and off we went. In theatre we found ….”
Read it and rant also at the MSM who could not give an honest and objective report of that incident.

The Independent for once told it straight acknowledging that she had been treated at the Be’er Sheba hospital and that she had intended to blow herself up there.

I was wrong to a point. O’Loughlin did touch the story but it turned up as a brief paragraph in an article described “Analysis” in which the Israelis are misrepresented as being the main culprits in a situation where peace hopes are fading.
Note the fact that the Israelis are blamed because the checkpoints are still in place.
    http://www.theage.com.au/news/middle-east-crisis/hopes-of-lasting-mideast-truce-fade/2005/06/22/1119321790018.html
The sad fact is that this newspaper’s reporter on the conflict also writes “analysis” which happens to be skewed in favour of one side. What hope is there for any honest and objective reporting in the Melbourne Age?

It is such a sad status of our world that Israeli’s checkpoints are seen as acts of aggression and oppression. Israel is being attacked constantly; by the media, by aspiring suicide bombers, by other terrorists, by our own people, and by what I thought were impartial third-party human rights organizations. I am Jewish, a woman and an American. I am committed to human rights for all people. I thought Amnesty International was too. What I find so disturbing here(among many disturbing events and issues), though, is the information reported about Israel’s so-called human rights violations. Amnesty International has a duty to report as truthfully as possible the events that happen in Israel and Palestine. Where did it get the information? It seems it gleans it from the same place as many of the Islamic media sites; when will it and other groups understand that much of the information reported by Islamic media is propoganda, and only serves to empower terrorists in their quest to wipe out Israel? It is equally disturbing and disheartening to see the Palestinians being portrayed as the downtrodden and oppressed by Israel. The reality of it is that Palestinians are aspiring to blow up as many Israelis as possible, and Israel is attempting to protect itself. The reality is that the Palestinians are indeed downtrodden, but only because its own leaders and the leaders of other Islamic countries have chosen to withhold economic and financial aid. Why does the US’s current administration, and groups like Amnesty International think that once the Gaza disembarkment happens, that peace will rule and the Islamic countries will live in harmony with Israel? They will not. If Israel is guilty of the human rights violations, then shame on it. But groups like AI have a duty to ensure that its sources are accurate, not self-serving propoganda. Israel remains comitted to a peaceful co-existence. Can the same be said of the Palestian Government or its Islamic neighbors? So far, the answer continues to be a resounding NO.

Even the Israeli Army spokeswoman seems to get the story wrong. She states in the AP video that it was the Erez Crossing that was the target. That would have been bad enough. However, the real adacity is that her target were civilian Jews in the very Israeli hospital that was giving her medical care!! The 10+ years since the Oslo “Peace” Accords have allowed the “Palestinians” to inculcate their young children to hate and commit murder. It is now wonder that after 10+ years of this indoctination (which does not stop) that now 21 year olds are so filled with absolute hate that they actively WANT to kill Jews.
The Israelis need to explain their situation better to the world.
