As Operation Pillar of Defense continues, here are the Top 5 Media Fails as HonestReporting inaugurates its Hall of Shame.
1. Jon Donnison, BBC
for retweeting a dramatic photo of two children wounded in war without making any effort to verify the photo’s authenticity.
Turns out the children were wounded in Syria and the photo first appeared Oct. 28.
He later apologized for the retweet…
but with the original retweet going out to more than 7,000 followers and receiving nearly 100 retweets of its own, the apology was too little too late to undo the damage.
2. BBC News
for refusing to acknowledge misleading its audience with fake footage of wounded Palestinians.
Almost as soon as Israel launched Operation Pillar of Defense, the Pallywood machine cranked into gear, creating fake images of Palestinians being evacuated after an Israeli strike. The footage appeared on BBC and CNN reports on the fighting.
CNN took steps after the fact to verify the footage with Reuters, which distributed it. And after failing to get a satisfactory answer, removed the footage and issued an apology.
The BBC, however, stood by the footage, claiming that the footage it ran was an edit from a longer reel. The footage that appeared on the site, however, bore all of trademarks of similar attempts to fake footage on the day of the Mohammed al-Dura incident.
3. Clayton Swisher, Al-Jazeera
for tweeting that Palestinian rocket attacks at Israeli civilians were legal under the laws of war.
In fact, if there is one aim to restricting what can and can’t be done during wartime, it is to protect the lives of civilians.
Swisher not only serves as an apologist for Hamas but also turns the concept of war crimes on its head.
It may be too much to expect journalists to accuse either side of war crimes. But to deny it is a step even beyond that.

Jon Snow kicked off the UK’s Channel 4 news last night by saying ‘the war on Gaza goes on’. Never mind the Hamas rockets still raining down on Israel. Now you understand why these faux journalists are the enemy of us all. They are shameless, willing partners of the terrorists bent on bringing about the demise of our civilisation. The greatest tragedy is that by helping the Palestinians to perpetuate their victim status, they have done the greatest disservice to the very people they wish to help. God help us from people like Jon Snow, one of the the left-liberal do-gooders in the media who don’t like their self-righteous smugness being called into question.

There are an awful lot of negative comments here which group ‘The British’ all in the same boat and I believe you need to be very wrong in doing so.
Whilst the BBC, Guardian & other left lefty media outlets may be biased towards the so called plight of Gaza, the vast majority of the British public are behind Israel.
And please remember that it was the British Foreign Sec and the British Prime Minister who publicly gave Israel support whilst Obama was still trying to hide under his desk to avoid having to comment.
As I said, I and the vast majority of Britons support Israels right to defend itself. Remember that and don’t burn bridges.

al jazeera is pro hamas, their news are bordering more for gaza. they are pretty disrespectful of people they interview who are Israel representatives… I watched aljazeera’s news anchor darren jordan badgering a rep from Jerusalem, it was very unprofessional.

AS long as evidence exists, BBC, Guardian and other should be banned from IL, until recant and pay penalty. Reporters should be expelled with no right of return ever.

I doubt that this A.Muslim will even be back to see any rebuttal’s.
However yesterday 5 Gazans were publicly executed , being thrown out of a van and shot. This story carries photos of the event – The executioners were on motorbikes and one body dragged down the street, tied to the cycle- The baying crowd spat on the bodies whilst using obscenities-
They were accused of spying for Israel- did they have a trial? -NO!
This is not a new thing in Gaza- Will the BBC publish it- I hope so-
Will the UN Human rights commission take it up- I hope so-
Somehow I doubt either will-
And A Muslim has the arrogance to have a go at Israel!

…..a muslim’s too busy to write….a bomb just went off on a bus in Tel Aviv…and they’re celebrating in Gaza….obviously the bus was a military target which a muslim hit with a precision bomb!!!!!
…by the way why are all the european peace nicks in gaza when syria is murdering 1000′s of its own daily…..guess that’s OK for a muslim & friends….long as it’s not the Jews????!!!!

I start wondering who old are you? Is this a teenage website? Anyways, let’s face it, none of us will be biased in this issue. Yes you won in the past, and still winning, but eventually you will lose, besides you’d not have won without the support of the western powers, too coward to fight alone. You still don’t know that the public opinion of the Muslim world is different from that of its shameless leaders. As for the UN, I mentioned it because your leaders seem too concerned about a possible membership status for Palestine, but who cares about the UN? so we won this round, but overall, I have to admit you are the winner since you are still occupying our holy land, but not for long. You can fool the traitors into negotiations with you but you can’t fool the real Muslims, and they’re in the rise. I’m sorry to say that your question about the holy land is pathetic, if you base it on whether it is mentioned in the holy Quran or on whether the final universal prophet had been to the holy land or not…
And those whom you said died, they didn’t, and aren’t dead! They are Martyrs.

A Muslim.Discussion about the palestian-israely conflict turn always to the same point: If you acept the very existence of Israel, there is a lot to talk, and both sides could reach a negociate solution, but if you don’t recognize the right of Israel to exist, is there anything to talk? “You” try to destroy Israel and if you could, you gonna kil all the jews in “your holly land”.
