Update: Canadian Network Disapproves of TV Host’s Anti-Israel and Anti-Jewish Remarks

February 6, 2012 12:35 by

V-Télé also assured the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs that its management would respond to its December 23 letter arguing that “incitement to hatred of Jews does not qualify as strong opinion, as underscored by (…) the Code of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters”.

Yet after V-Télé informed the Centre that its co-president Maxime Rémillard had met over two weeks ago with Gendron, it appears to have reneged on its assurances that it would respond back to us, signalling once more the station’s incapacity to seriously address the misappropriation of its media platform to incite against Jews. Indeed, V-Télé would be well-advised to consider the fact that its host’s diatribes are earning him and the station praise from far-right racist organizations in France.

V-Télé management is acutely aware of Gendron’s history of inflammatory statements against Jews and other targets. In 2006, TQS (V-Télé’s former name) fired its host by arguing that “Stéphane Gendron’s decision to persevere in the way he has chosen is no longer acceptable for TQS which has obligations and responsibil(ities) to comply as part of its broadcasting license.”. When V announced in 2009 that Gendron would return to its line-up, one of its producers sought to ease concerns by stating “The past is the past. He (Gendron) knows the rules very well”.

Gendron has made it abundantly clear that he has no more intention to abide by broadcasting rules today than he did back in 2006. While V-Télé has every right to explore controversial issues that add to the marketplace of ideas, and while criticism of Israeli policies is legitimate, Gendron’s comments crossed the line from fair opinion to repugnant discourse. If V-Télé wishes to remain a television broadcaster in good standing, it cannot condone in 2012 what TQS condemned in 2006.”

I absolutely agree with Arthur Brociner that V-network and Stephane Gendron should be sued. How would one go about this? Are there any lawyers who could be approached? And who would pay their costs? These are vital points. It is important to use the law rather than the continuous angry comments that are re-cycled amongst our own kind. Arthur, what suggestions do you and anyone else have for the above questions? Are there any members of the Canadian parliament who could be approached to assist, for example? Or might there be an interested newspaper who could take on a lawsuit?

History proved that ALL antisemites are basically COWARDS trying to make a point in favor of their feelings of profound inferiority when compared to the Jews. And Gendron is just one more such speciman, nothing really special.

Due to the receptivity antisemitism has among French Canadian catholics (the good old separatists that brought the province to its knees), it is important that pressure should be maintained by the Jewish community throughout Canada against such elements. Legal action promoted by any one of the many Canadian human rights organizations might also help. NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER SURRENDER TO ANTISEMITES AND THEIR COHORTS!

Its a pity you cant just ignore idiots, because they usually create more idiots. Do not these people delve into history and FACTS. Gendron is just your typical lowlife anti semetic twitt. History can tell you all about the Jewish peoples, the inheritance of the land the generations the kings the cities etc. QUIZ TIME when was the country of ‘Palestine founded and by who?
What were its borders, what were its Capital? What were its Major cities. Name at least one leader before Arafat. What was the language of the country. What was its currency or monetary unit or exchange rate at any time in history Since there is no such country of Palestine today, what caused its Demise and when did it occur. Mr Gendron dig dig dig for Facts. It has always Been Israel and the only time it was called Palestine was when the Romans wanted to take it over and when The British limited the Jews from coming back into the land before they all got killed off and on Modern Day Maps who refuse to Aknowledge the Nation of Israel. Complementing previous comment(s), Gendron having had his 15 minutes of notoriety, for which he was obviously quite handsomely paid, will fade into his original insignificance soon. Any comments about his performance are a waste of time.

Regarding the Arab-Muslim immigration to Quebec, most Catholics French Canadians conveniently forget that they – and ALL other Christians anywhere in the world, are the PRIMARY TARGET of the Holy Jihad. The Jews, under their new nic Israelis, are mere targets of oportunity.

Finally, the Jewish situation in Quebec is much less problematic than many believe it is. Much less.
Apart from some antisemitic manifestations that are rare in the province, Catholics and Jews have always lived in harmony and most probably always will.

The local Muslim community (NOT the Arab Christians that are the descendants of refuges from the Muslim holocaust perpetrated against them mostly in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt) will have to be very careful. At any moment, they will forget where they are and then the retribution of a civilized society, one they are not used to live in, will come down upon them like an unforgiving thunder.

Where is the Anti Defamation League of B’nai B’rith (ADL)? Why haven’t they done something about this? Or have they, and it hasn’t been reported? This is a ridiculous occurance and shouldn’t be tolerated for one minute? Hasn’t the Canadian Press picked up this matter … why haven’t Canadian Jews made an issue of this?

Love V’s response: “In the future we will be sure both sides are presented:!

No criticism, retraction, apology for obvious hate speech. Amazing what the media has become in their tolerance and acceptance of blatant antiSemitic remarks.
Hard to imagine their responding in this fashion if some commentator had made comparable generic criticism of Islam or Muslims.

Thank goodness for Honest Reporting and their “honest reporting”!

When it comes to “anti-semitism” or racism … prejudices in all it’s forms etc, no one WANTS to be associated with such words.

Anyways, Canada (where I live) has something called a “hate crime” and most of a citizens know very well of such issues. Racism is so … uncivilized.

Section 319(1): Public Incitement of Hatred

The crime of “publicly inciting hatred” has four main elements. To contravene the Code, a person must:

    communicate statements,
    in a public place,
incite hatred against an identifiable group,
in such a way that there will likely be a breach of the peace.
Under section 319, “communicating” includes communicating by telephone, BROADCASTING or other audible or visible means; a “public place” is one to which the PUBLIC HAS ACCESS by right or invitation, express or implied; and “statements” means words (spoken, written or recorded), gestures, and signs or other visible representations.

All the above elements must be proven for a court to find an accused guilty of either:

an indictable offence, for which the punishment is imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
an offence punishable on summary conviction.
