While the BBC’s failure to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in its Olympics coverage has caught the attention of many of us, including the Israeli government, let’s not forget that The Guardian previously went even further than this. In April 2012, the newspaper referred to its style guide which stated:  “Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel; Tel Aviv is”.

It looks like The Guardian has had a change of heart since then. Very quietly, beneath the radar, the paper has amended its style guide:

The Guardian now refers to Jerusalem as the “seat of government”. Tel Aviv, however, is no longer the capital city.
