We have documentation not hearsay or lies regarding conditions in what is now Israel. There are contemporary accounts such as those of young Disraeli or Mark Twain or the Encyclopedia Britannica. They tell us of generally wretched, diseased, warring tribes trying to eke out an existence on destroyed land owned by absentee landlords. From 1902 on, the Arab leadership was anxious to thwart Herzl inspired Jewish settlement and encouraged Arabs from Syria and Egypt to immigrate. Jewish land reclamation encouraged more Arab labor to immigrate. The British Mandate hired almost exclusively Arab labor which encouraged even more Arab immigration.
My own grandfather died there of malaria shortly after his arrival in the land.. My mother, after an absence of 38 years, visited me in Kfar Vitkin where she told the story of an Arab having a large home built by ever greater numbers of workers who died there “like flies” from the malarial swamps. It was known then as”the valley of death.” Technical accounts by Johnston and by Loudermilk describe the wretched condition of the soil eroded by centuries of abuse and neglect.

For millenia, we were guests in others’ lands and politely saw our hosts’ points of view first. Now, back in our own home once more, we must insist on our own point of view first. Anything else is not polite, it is craven and unworthy of the sacrifices that our fathers and we have made.
I do think that in recent years we have been too preoccupied to explain our actions in the face of the Arab and Liberal created facts on the ground which are dramatic fantasies difficult to contravene. The distortions are so relentless and the facts so complex that the general public has tuned the matter out. But Israel is waking up to the futility of negotiation with a culture that has no Western concept of facts or negotiation. Israel’s foreign ministry knows now what it has to do. Danny Ayalon’s presentations are excellent, but there should be more audience testing
of the material as is done with the design of commercials in order to get the most efficient and clearest message out. I sense that he is somehow still missing the mark. Audience test!
