Vote for the Dishonest Reporter of 2012
November 4, 2012 15:35 by Pesach Benson
In addition to that that other election, now’s the time to vote for the Dishonest Reporter of 2012. It’s our annual recognition of the year’s most skewed and biased coverage of Israel and the Mideast conflict.
Make your voice heard and please choose one of the five nominees below, along with a brief explanation of your choice. (You may also nominate someone else not on the list). We’ll announce the ignoble winners in a few weeks.
There are three ways to vote:
- Post a comment below.
- Post a comment on HonestReporting’s Facebook page.
- Send an email to action@honestreporting.com
The five nominees (in no particular order)
- Gideon Levy: Haaretz journalist, for a survey dishonestly concluding that Israelis support racist, apartheid policies.
- Vincent Browne: Veteran Irish journalist, who called Israel a “cancer” on TV.
- 60 Minutes: For the CBS News show’s imbalanced look at the status of Christians in the Holy Land.
- The Guardian: For flying in the face of reality and insisting that Tel Aviv is Israel’s capital.
- Khulood Badawi: UN staffer whose false photo tweet demonizing Israel went viral.
Due to the volume of mail, we can’t acknowledge nominations. For old times sake, see who HonestReporting readers gave the 2011 awards to.

I would like to submit Thomas Friedman, of the NY Times, for an Honorable Mention for
suggesting in one of his columns that Israel is supporting Assad in the Syrian Civil war.
He is too deserving to be omitted from this list

The Guardian. I wanted to say Levy like many of the others here but I think that might be because it’s so recent, even though he is disgusting.

Yotam, you are wrong. levi’s poison is being spread over the last 20 years or so. The last one is in effect, milder than many of his previous “Objective” writing about Israel. But of course, he is in line with the publisher of this :Israeli newspaper – Haaretz.

Vincent Browne for sure. For trying to hide his hatred of Jews behind “Israel Bashing” and for denying it and refusing to come clean.

Gideon Levy specifically and Haartetz in general for its dishonest apartheid survey and its generally hostile attitude to Jewish values.

I vote for the Gideon Levy articles on Israeli racism as deserving of your award; especially, as he’s a Jew – by birth – and doesn’t do his / my co-religionists any favours; plus, he offers no constructive ways for the Israelis to deal with constant threats of annihilation from its neighbours.

I vote for Gideon Levy. Vincent Browne’s issue was not actually reporting, it’s just a disgusting opinion. 60 minutes? — mostly it was unbalanced, not deliberately false. Khulood Badawi is not a journalist & while the Guardian’s incorrect labeling of Tel Aviv is wrong, it’s not as destructive as what Levy is doing.

Can’t a tie be declared and all of them convicted, oops, win? if not Gideon Levy may stand out a little as DISHONEST.

I have to vote for the Guardian as I consider them the enemy of Israel all the time, not just one or two incidents. They are also the enemy of America – the part of America that wholeheartedly supports Israel.

Gideon Levy, although all would count and of course, so many more…
He is the worst, being born Jewish and Israeli and behaving as a traitor, for he gives the most legitimacy to his lies – the world tends to believe Jews who rat on other Jews.

I vote for the “false photo Tweet” since it does much to make Israel look bad to those who are ignorant and can’t see beyond the phony pictures.
