Calling Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a notorious terrorist who headed ISIS, an “austere religious scholar” has landed the Washington Post in serious trouble. But the truth is that journalists all-too-frequently have trouble calling terrorists out for who they are. In fact, it’s been going on for years.
We, the public, deserve better.
