Director of News
Role Description
The Director of News will build and lead a newly restructured News Division responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to day-to-day media coverage related to Israel. This senior leader will set editorial direction, oversee investigative and rapid response operations, and ensure that HonestReporting delivers timely, rigorous, and high-impact media interventions.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, mission-driven leader with strong editorial judgment and experience managing teams in fast-paced media or advocacy environments. They inspire their staff. The right person has:
News Division Leadership & Strategy
- Restructure and lead the News Division, establishing clear workflows, priorities, and strategy.
- Set and uphold editorial standards for investigative reporting, media analysis, and public-facing communications.
- Oversee production of regular reports identifying trends in media bias and narrative framing.
- Foster a culture of intellectual rigor, accountability, creativity, curiosity, and mission-driven problem-solving.
Editorial Oversight, Rapid Response & Impact
- Guide investigative journalists and research analysts in producing high-quality reports, exposés, and data-driven analyses.
- Ensure theHonestReporting rapid response team is meeting organizational objectives by ensuring swift, accurate, and strategic reactions to breaking news, viral misinformation, and emerging media narratives about Israel.
- Establish and enforce protocols for real-time monitoring, verification, escalation, and public engagement across media platforms.
- Serve as the senior editorial decision-maker during fast-moving news events, balancing speed with rigor, journalistic integrity, and organizational priorities.
- Review and approve content prior to publication to ensure accuracy, credibility, and alignment with organizational strategy.
- Translate real-time media interventions into longer-term investigative priorities and strategic insights.
- Establish and track KPIs related to investigative impact, media engagement, and public awareness.
Team Leadership & Innovation
- Recruit and mentor high-performing staff, promoting collaboration and professional growth.
- Encourage innovative approaches to media monitoring, research, and storytelling.
- Work with the CTO and other senior leaders to evaluate tools and methodologies that enhance real-time media analysis and impact.
Qualifications:
Experience & Background
- Minimum 7 years of professional management experience in journalism, advocacy, or a closely related field.
- Prior leadership experience managing editorial, research, or content teams in a newsroom, NGO, think tank, or similar environment.
- Deep understanding of Israeli history and current events, American news trends, global media ecosystems, journalistic ethics, and editorial standards.
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to assess complex or sensitive stories quickly and accurately.
- Native-level understanding of the American cultural, political, and media landscape.

Social Media Content Creator
Role Description
The right person has:

We’re seeking a motivated, organized, creative, inquisitive individual to join the social media team as a full-time content creator.
Location – Remote (Based in US East Coast or Central Time Zone)
Job Description
The primary responsibility of this role is to write video and carousel scripts on a specific range of topics affecting the media coverage of Israel, the American Jewish experience, and how those stories are told. The ideal candidate will also be able to do the brainstorming, research, front of screen and production of final pieces of content.
Requirements
- Social media savvy with the ability to create cross-platform posts.
- Strong understanding of Jewish history, Israeli history, the American-Jewish experience, and current Israeli events.
- Strong research skills, and the ability to distill and simplify complicated ideas.
- Ability to recognize trending topics and pertinent ideas.
- Out-of-the-box thinking for how to convey ideas to new audiences.
- Comfortable and confident on screen.
- Comfort prioritizing multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Domestic and international travel is required (10%).
Preferred
- Video editing on Adobe Premier and CapCut.
- Selecting visual/B-roll from HonestReporting’s library or media agencies.
- Experience with Canva or Adobe Express.

HonestReporting is looking for a TikTok creator who can craft and create short-form, fact-based TikToks. From stitches and duets to original content, we’d provide the tools to help you monitor the platform to find the misleading narratives that need a response.
You’d work alongside our social media strategist and editorial team to gain the skills to produce the best content. (You don’t even need TikTok experience, just a little knowledge and confidence to try).
Responsibilities:
- Monitor TikTok videos and comment sections
- Research false narratives and claims
- Write engaging, entertaining and well-thought-out scripts
- Appear in front of the camera and presenting the script
- Edit the video on CapCut or TikTok, using effects like greenscreen to back up facts with sources
- Editorial duties to support the organization’s mission
