Background

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) tracks journalists killed in “work-related” incidents.

But in Gaza, the line between civilian and combatant isn’t always clear.

Many “journalists” tracked by CPJ were members of terror groups or worked for terror-affiliated media.

Abdallah Aljamal was a correspondent for the Palestine Chronicle.

He also kept three Israeli hostages in his home, and was killed during their rescue.

His death should not serve as evidence that “Israel targets journalists.”

🗣️Demand accountability from CPJ:

  1. Abdallah Aljamal should not be added to the CPJ list.
  2. Remove the terrorists who make up 50% of the list
  3. Remove those who were not killed while reporting or on assignment.

Subject: Don’t put hostage holder on dead journalist list

Dear Committee to Protect Journalists,

It has come to my attention that Gazan journalist Abdallah Aljamal was killed holding hostages for Hamas. Your organization keeps a record of Gazan journalists killed in the line of duty.

I am asking:

1. Don’t add him to the list of journalists killed
2. Remove the terrorists who HonestReporting found make up 50% of the list – https://honestreporting.com/will-hostage-taking-journalist-abdallah-aljamal-be-added-to-cpj-list/
3. Remove those who were not killed in the line of duty doing their journalistic work.

Thank you
