While recent events make the joy of Israel’s Netta Barzilai’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest seem like a very long time ago, we nonetheless secured a correction to The Guardian’s coverage after this faux pas:

With Netta herself expressing her joy that Eurovision 2019 would be held in Israel’s capital Jerusalem, along with Israeli politicians, and Jerusalem’s mayor Nir Barkat offering his support to host the event, it appeared obvious that Jerusalem is where Israel intends the contest to be held.

We tweeted the journalist responsible and, to her credit, she engaged in a positive interaction that made it clear that there was no ill intent on her part.

The Guardian issued the following correction shortly afterwards:
