Assad’s Small Media Victory at the Times of London

June 7, 2011 9:46 by

I don’t understand how the Times of London chose a photo of a Palestinain funeral to illustrate an update about Syrian rebels reportedly killing 120 policemen. This AP photo has nothing to do with the story.

Which is exactly what Bashar Assad’s counting on.

You won’t find any reporters or photographers in ?Jisr al-Shughur, Hama, or anywhere else where people are protesting the ruling regime.

In the absence of photos, the Times instead illustrates its coverage with the next-closest image available: a Palestinian shot by Israeli forces in a riot sponsored by Assad. Syrian press freedom is limited to Palestinian refugee camps.

So while the Syrian army’s butchering its own citizens, Israel’s image gets smeared too.
