1. Stunning the world, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. In the aftermath, the world began pondering the ramifications while internationals leaders, including Israeli officials, congratulated Trump. Regional reactions weren’t long in coming:

– Abbas congratulates Trump, urges him to pursue peace deal
– Hamas urges Trump to re-evaluate US policy that ‘favors Israel’
– Iran urges Donald Trump to honor terms of nuclear deal
– Turkey urges Trump to extradite Gulen

2. Yesterday at Turtle Bay, the UN General Assembly passed 10 (!?) resolutions bashing Israel yesterday. UN Watch linked to each of the resolutions, with Hillel Neuer commenting:

“While there will be a total of 20 resolutions against Israel this session, not a single U.N. General Assembly resolution is planned today for gross human rights abusers such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Venezuela, China, or Cuba.”

3. In historic first, a senior British royal is said to be planning official trip to Israel, the Times of Israel reports. The British embassy would neither confirm nor deny the report.

While the visit would coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, issued by foreign secretary Lord Arthur Balfour in 1917, it is unclear whether the trip would officially mark the document’s centenary. Instead, the visit may be formally billed as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Jerusalem in which General Allenby lead the British Army to a victory over the Ottomon Empire.

4. SUCCESS: HR Gets Leaky Water Story Fixed: Following correspondence with HR, the Thomson Reuters Foundation admitted to several factual errors and amended its story.

• Reporters got a sneak peek look at the new Yasser Arafat museum in Ramallah. While the Washington Post gave a full picture of the former Palestinian leader’s life, you wouldn’t know from The Guardian that Arafat was tied to terror, accused of skimming Palestinian money for himself and masterminded the Second Intifada. (For the record, the latter charge was confirmed by Arafat’s wife.)

• Wow. The BBC did a nice story about Israeli Arabs who serve in the IDF.

• A Palestinian trying to stab a soldier was shot this morning. The attack took place in Huwara, a Palestinian village near Nablus.

• A mortar shell presumed to be stray fire from Syria landed in the Israeli Golan this morning causing no injuries or damage. YNet coverage.

• The Mideast isn’t waiting for Washington’s transition of power:

• The Israeli embassy in Britain is furious after an anti-Semitic hate speaker ranted for an hour to students at one of London’s top universities about the evils of Israel. The Daily Mail describes the scene at London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). David Collier was also on hand.

Thomas Suarez described the creation of Israel as a ‘racist’, ‘fascist’ endeavour, and linked the ‘cult’ of Zionism to the Nazis.
