Israelis “Horrifed by Zionism”?

August 24, 2011 10:58 by

US broadcaster Glenn Beck could certainly be described as a polarizing figure and many Israelis have not welcomed his high-profile visit to Jerusalem for his “Restoring Courage” rally.

But check out the byline on this article in The Independent:

Perhaps many Israelis are horrified by Beck’s outspoken views on many things. But to imply that it is “Zionist views” that have irked so many is deceptively misleading. By definition, most Israelis, by virtue of their support for Jewish self-determination in their own state, are Zionists.

To portray the entire Zionist ideology as Glenn Beck’s particular brand of politics and religious beliefs is simply inaccurate.

Glenn Beck’s detractors are the ones who are polarizing. I would guess that most Israelis are welcoming him. The only Israelis horrified by his views are the far left, as is the case in America

I am confused. I thought Zionism espoused the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine to be called Israel. Has not that been accomplished? Why are we still talking about Zionism?
