For those who seek to delegitimize Israel, conspiracy lurks everywhere. No matter what Israel does, the real purpose is always to divert people from Israel’s true agenda of oppressing of the Palestinians.

The latest example is the fuss made over an advertising insert in the monthly magazine by the UK food outlet, Waitrose.

A recent issue of the magazine included a glossy 32-page insert. According to The Independent:

Taste of Israel, created by the state’s tourist board, was featured inside the February issue of the monthly Waitrose Kitchen Magazine.

The publication includes information about the history of food in Israel, common ingredients and dishes, a feature on market tours, as well as recipes for dishes such as shakshuka, falafel and hummus.

Recipes? Common ingredients? Food history? Well, that’s what Israel wants you to think. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has the real story about the insert:

The booklet is a prime example of Israeli government propaganda, highlighting its efforts to distract the public abroad from its brutal military occupation of Palestinian land by replacing the image of an apartheid regime with that of a tourist-friendly, culture-loving country.

Not surprising considering the current anti-Israel climate in the UK, the anti-Israel version of events has touched a nerve among a portion of Waitrose shoppers, who have vowed to boycott the outlet because the insert fails to address the struggles of the Palestinians.

William Sitwell, editor of Waitrose Kitchen Magazine, denied having an agenda in publishing the insert: “Waitrose Kitchen is not political – we take adverts from a wide range of different businesses and organisations,” he said.

But maybe the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign protests too much. Maybe the group is really just a front to attack innocent Israeli adverts to distract people from the oppression of the Palestinian people by Hamas.
