One thousand days after October 7, Hamas is still armed, active, and openly glorifying the same violence that started this war.
Israel recently eliminated Sameh Abu Kamil, identified by the IDF as a Hamas platoon commander who had been advancing attacks against Israeli troops. At his funeral in Gaza, armed men appeared under Hamas flags while crowds chanted “Khaybar, Khaybar, ya Yahud,” a call rooted in violence against Jews.
That should have been a major media story.
Instead, international coverage of Gaza too often highlights the consequences of the war while leaving out the terrorists still operating inside it. Audiences see humanitarian suffering, but not always the armed groups that started the war, prolonged it, and continue promising to repeat their atrocities.
The same pattern applies to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. PIJ terrorists took part in the October 7 invasion, and Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski has testified about the starvation, torture, and abuse he endured in captivity under a PIJ commander later killed by Israel.
Those details matter.
If the media can find space for stories about surf clubs, World Cup screenings, and daily life in Gaza, it can also find space for armed Hamas funerals, terror chants, and hostage testimony.
Because when coverage shows every consequence of the war but keeps minimizing the terrorists still waging it, that is not context.
