McKenna Grace’s Krav Maga Workout Sparks Anti-Israel Backlash

Actress McKenna Grace is facing criticism on social media for an unexpected reason: practicing Krav Maga, the Israeli self-defense system.

During a red carpet interview for her upcoming Hunger Games film, Grace casually mentioned boxing, cardio, and Krav Maga as part of her physical training. That was enough for some social media users to call for her cancellation.

The controversy stems from Krav Maga’s Israeli origins. Developed from self-defense techniques used by Jews confronting antisemitic violence in Europe during the 1930s, Krav Maga later became closely associated with Israel. Today, it is practiced worldwide and frequently used in Hollywood action training.

Critics also targeted Grace for her involvement in Scream 7, the film from which actress Melissa Barrera was fired following controversial social media posts about Israel and Gaza.

But neither practicing an Israeli martial art nor appearing in a film connected to an unrelated political controversy establishes someone’s views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The backlash illustrates how anti-Israel activism can extend beyond politics into entertainment, where even an actor’s choice of workout can become controversial.

Krav Maga is a self-defense discipline practiced around the world. Treating participation in it as a political statement says far more about the backlash than it does about McKenna Grace.
