CNN is pitching its own wire service to editors and publishers at a newspaper summit of sorts. An excellent report in the NY Times describes CNN Wire as “catering to financially strained newspapers looking for an alternative to The Associated Press.”

AP executives will surely pay attention to another development catching Jim Romenesko's attention: McClatchy News and the Christian Science Monitor will start sharing stories written by their international correspondents. Smaller papers in Ohio are already pooling resources to bypass AP on local content.
