This snippet from a Times of London leader on the Tel Aviv bombing has us scratching our heads in curiousity:
[Israel] should seek to target the political and “military” representatives of Hamas rather than the Palestinian population in whose name they choose to speak and to endorse appalling violence.
How accurate is the Times’ assertion that Hamas doesn’t really speak for the Palestinians? The BBC’s Alan Johnston had no problem finding Palestinians supporting the bombing:
And a food stand owner, Talat Hejazi, described his reaction to the news of the blast in Tel Aviv:
“I was very happy because of all these blows on us all the time. Let them feel it for once. Let them retaliate – we will sacrifice ourselves.”Overwhelmingly people spoke in those terms.
