AFP’s Caption Carnage Cavalcade

Our recent critiques of MSM fauxtography are raising awareness. A reader alerted us to this bungled caption from AFP (screengrab from DayLife).

Palestinians dug a tunnel under the Gaza fence to kidnap Shalit from the Israeli side of the border.

Mishandled captions are bad enough, but when the error comes from a wire service, it’s even worse. Thousands of newspapers around the world get AFP photos.

Even if AFP issues a correction, it won’t get the same attention as the original mistake.
