Background

The same day we exposed Gaza photojournalist Ashraf Amra enjoying footage of an IDF soldier being lynched on October 7 and sharing a call to infiltrate Israel, The Washington Post quoted him in a story.
The newspaper also had no issue with the fact that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had honored Amra in the past, as revealed in our expose.
A day later, The New York Times published a photo by Amra.
How is it acceptable that these outlets give platform to a “journalist” who celebrated during the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust and shared a call for Gazans to infiltrate into sovereign Israeli territory?
The Washington Post and The New York Times should not be rewarding Ashraf Amra by publishing his photos or citing him in articles concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Subject: Your use of Gaza freelancer Ashraf Amra

Dear New York Times,

The media watchdog HonestReporting revealed on Monday that Gaza freelancer Ashraf Amra has a close relationship with Hamas’ leader Ismail Haniyeh, urged Gazans to infiltrate Israel on October 7, and mocked Israelis murdered that day.

That very next day, your newspaper featured an image of his in Peter Beinart’s piece entitled “The Hard Truth of Israel’s Endgame in Gaza.”
People who mock the worst day in Jewish history since the Holocaust should not be treated like professionals by mainstream news organizations.

All coverage from Gaza should require a disclaimer saying that there is no freedom of the press in the enclave run by the Hamas terrorist organization.

Thank you
