There is no greater indicator of success than being targeted by your greatest enemies.

For better or for worse, HonestReporting has found itself in the crosshairs.

Our success in highlighting antisemitic social media posts of journalists who praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and terrorist attacks that killed dozens of Jews, Muslims and Christians has come to the attention of the worst foes of Israel and the Jewish people.

This week, it was the turn of Al Mayadeen, a Beirut-based pan-Arabist and pro-Hezbollah satellite news television channel. Though distinct from Al-Manar (the official channel operated by Hezbollah), Al Mayadeen director Ghassan bin Jiddo has spoken of his “friendship” with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and even aired a three-hour interview with him to mark the terror group’s 40th anniversary.

Al Mayadeen was only the latest terror-supporting channel to target us.

In October, HonestReporting was featured as the prime subject in a half-hour show on PressTV — a state-owned and funded news network of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A week later, HonestReporting was highlighted by the Quds News Network — a news site linked to Hamas.

Which begs the question: Why all the attention? Why do Islamic terrorist groups care about HonestReporting’s media monitoring? What are they fighting back against?

The answer is clear. HonestReporting is challenging not only their false narrative, but also the journalists popularizing their narrative.

We threaten their assertions that Israel is a foreign colonial occupier that indiscriminately targets and kills innocent Palestinians. When they glorify their “martyrs,” we call out their war crimes of arming children and sending them into battle against Israeli soldiers.

They try to normalize words like “martyr” and “resistance” as “everyday words that form an essential part of the Palestinian and Arab lexicon” and claim that as a result we are “targeting Palestinian national identity and history.”

In response, we successfully make the case that journalists who glorify terror cannot be reporting on Israel in an objective manner.

Terrorists have long recognized the role that the media plays in their jihad. In 2002, Al-Qaeda’s Osama bin Laden stated: “It is obvious that the media war in this century is one of the strongest methods; in fact, its ratio may reach 90% of the total preparation for the battles.” His unlamented successor Ayman al-Zawahiri stated in 2005, “More than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media. We are in a media battle in a race for the hearts and minds of our umma [worldwide Muslim community].”

Israel is also operating on that same battlefield of the media, still fighting for its international legitimacy and its very right to exist. In modern-day warfare, whoever controls the narrative wins in the eyes of international public opinion.

Channels like Al Mayadeen, QNN and PressTV want to normalize terror attacks against civilians as “resistance.” They need international legitimacy in order to triumph over the Jewish state and ensure popular support among the Palestinian people.

Our work is a threat to their power and leadership.

HonestReporting’s successes indicate that the Western world will not tolerate that language and the mainstream media will not blindly follow that narrative.

At HonestReporting, we monitor the media to ensure they get their facts straight about Israel. And, the overwhelming majority of incorrect reports are just that — errors — and not the result of malice or bias.

But the likes of PressTV, Quds News Network and Al Mayadeen actively want to wipe the State of Israel off the map. Controlling the international narrative about Israel and the Palestinians is essential to achieving that goal.

We cannot and will not allow that to happen.

Though we take no joy in being targeted by international terror groups, we acknowledge their attention as confirmation that our work is hitting them where it hurts.

Despite ongoing intimidation from the Iranian regime and media outlets loyal to Iranian-sponsored terror groups, we will continue to hold the media accountable by ensuring accurate and impartial reporting on the Jewish state.
