Israel and the Palestinians
• It’s official: The International Olympic Committee approved Thomas Bach as its new chief. He’s the guy who heads the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ghorfa), which facilitates the Arab trade boycott of Israel.
Ghorfa helps German companies ensure that products meet the import requirements of Arab governments, some of which ban products and services from Israel.
• Israel HaYom, Bloomberg News, and the Times of London all picked up on the Hamas/Gaza financial crisis.
• The Daily Telegraph‘s Jake Wallis Simons traveled around the West Bank for an impressive seven-part multi-media feature, Meet the Settlers. Simons visited Gush Etziyon, Hebron, Shiloh, Tekoa, Neve Erez, Psagot and Ariel, and Maale Shomron and Alfei Menashe.
• Jeff Jacoby and Yossi Beilin mark the 20th anniversary of the Oslo accords.
Rest O’ the Roundup
• A suicide bomber driving a car loaded with explosives blew up the Egyptian military’s Sinai headquarters. According to AP, the entire one-story building collapsed, killing at least three people and injuring 20 more.
• A French political party suspended one of its candidates for posting anti-Semitic and anti-Israel photos on Facebook. According to the JTA, the National Front may even expel Francois Chatelain from the party.
