Biography

Dave Sharma was appointed Australia’s Ambassador to Israel in June 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from the University of Cambridge (with First Class Honors) and a Master’s Degree from Deakin University. He is married with three daughters.

Dave grew up in Sydney, Australia. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Dave worked in several senior roles within Government. He headed the International Division within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, advising the PM on Australia’s foreign relations and meetings with leaders, including G20 summits and the East Asia Summit. He was closely involved in the policy outcomes from President Obama’s visit to Australia in November 2011 and Australia’s successful chairing of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth in October 2011. He also served as Australia’s G20 sous-sherpa. Dave has served as Assistant Secretary for Africa in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in Parliament as the legal adviser to Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, and overseas at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC and at the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea with a post as a senior civilian attached to the Australian-led peace monitoring force in Bougainville.
