Wednesday’s Times states in an short news item:

Ultra-Orthodox Jews have joined Muslims in a demonstration against Israeli excavations near the al-Aqsa Mosque compound. They carried banners, some written in Arabic, that read: “Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians” and “Jews are forbidden to insult Islamic religious sites”.

Much of the mainstream media has yet to correct the distortions that have surrounded the issue of the archaeological excavations by the Mugrabi Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City. (See HonestReporting’s communique for the real story.)

Why does the Times try to justify anti-Israel libels by focusing on Jews who have allied themselves with Muslim extremists?

The Times also irresponsibly omits any context from the story. As YNet reports, this “demonstration” consisted of only six Neturei Karta members. As HonestReporting has previously pointed out, the Neturei Karta, who participated in the Iranian Holocaust Denial conference, are considered to be an outcast group that has been publicly condemned not only by mainstream Jewry around the world but also by their own ultra-orthodox brethren.

Even though it came through the Reuters and AFP newswires, why did the Times publish this non-story at all? Please send your considered comments to the Times – [email protected]

BBC’S NABLUS REPORT

It’s not only the Times that has missed out important facts. The BBC’s Matthew Price, reporting from Nablus, covers Israeli anti-terror operations, focusing on the effects on the local Palestinian population. (Click here to see the full video report.)

Price, however, fails to mention the Israeli discovery of four Palestinian explosives labs filled with pipe bombs, gas balloons, explosives, computers and electrical wires as well as a “terror studio,” which was used by terrorist groups to film suicide bombers’ last remarks before being dispatched to their targets.

To compound this, Price finishes his report, referring to the IDF with the sentence: “They say they’re protecting Israel, while here, on the land Israel has occupied for nearly 40 years, a whole city is suffering.”

If you agree that the BBC is demonstrating a one-sided approach to its reporting, please send your comments to BBC Complaints – http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints
