While most peace activists have expressed fears, a few people hold out hope that Hamas will perhaps restrain itself. We don’t share this assessment, but everyone’s entitled to their opinion. That said, we’re scratching our head over a staff-ed in today’s NY Times which suggests that the Gray Lady continues to clench the rose-colored glasses:
If ever there was a time of opportunity for the few remaining souls who have not given up on chances for Middle East peace, now might just be it.
We look forward to more peaceful days in the Mideast, but nothing suggests that now is a “time of opportunity” (here’s why 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).
Not surprisingly, the Times also calls on the US to press Israel to continue transferring some $50 million a month in tax and customs receipts which the Jewish state collects for the PA.
