The wire service spun the Hamas chief as extending an olive branch to Israel—while omitting other parts of the speech that didn’t fit Reuters’ version of reality. Unlike Reuters, AFP quoted the rest of the speech:
“Our enemies … don’t understand that a suicide operation … is a natural right,” the exiled leader told students in Damascus, adding that Palestinians live “under Israeli occupation and have the right to fight and defend themselves”.
At least Reuters shows a certain consistency towards the Hamas peace proposal.
