Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding should have been celebrity news. Instead, parts of the internet found a way to turn it into another conspiracy about Jews and Zionism.
The reason? Adam Sandler, who is Jewish, officiated the ceremony at Madison Square Garden on July 3. His connection to the couple appears straightforward: Sandler worked with Kelce on Happy Gilmore 2 and has publicly praised Swift in the past.
But for antisemites online, Sandler’s Jewish identity was enough. Suddenly, Swift’s choice of officiant was being framed as some kind of Zionist declaration.
That is what makes the reaction so revealing. Sandler has not made Israel central to his public identity. In a 2022 interview, he even said he had never been to Israel, despite famously playing an Israeli character in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.
Taylor Swift has also largely avoided public comment on Israel and Gaza.
But none of that mattered. Adam Sandler is Jewish, and for people obsessed with blaming Jews and Zionists for everything, that was more than enough.
This was never about Taylor Swift’s politics. It was about the ugly assumption that Jewish proximity is automatically political, suspicious, and somehow proof of Zionist influence.
Apparently, all it takes to become part of a Zionist conspiracy is knowing a Jew.
