The DSA Platform’s Israel Obsession

The DSA wants to end U.S. sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran — but Israel alone gets singled out for prosecution and isolation.

The Democratic Socialists of America’s new national platform is packaged like a friendly illustrated guide to a better future. Its section “A Day Without Capitalism” imagines a world without debt, mortgages, landlords, or health insurance bills. It is soft, utopian, and almost cartoonishly simple.

But the tone changes quickly when the platform turns to foreign policy.

In a section called “Working-Class Foreign Policy,” the DSA names Israel as the only country whose leaders should be prosecuted. The platform calls for ending all military and economic aid to Israel and prosecuting U.S. and Israeli leaders over Gaza. It does not mention Hamas, October 7, the Israeli hostages, or a two-state solution.

The contradiction is hard to ignore. On the same page, the DSA demands an end to U.S. sanctions and “economic warfare” against countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran. But Israel is singled out for economic isolation and criminal prosecution.

That is not a universal anti-war policy. It is a double standard.

The platform also connects global conflicts, including Gaza, to everyday American struggles like gas prices and rent, framing them as part of the same system serving “the bosses.” In that worldview, Israel becomes more than a foreign policy issue. It becomes a symbol of everything the DSA wants its audience to resent.

You can support healthcare, housing reform, or a shorter workweek without turning the Jewish state into the only country on earth treated as a criminal defendant.

The DSA’s platform may come with cute drawings. But its message on Israel is anything but subtle.
