The October 7 Hamas Massacre Must Never Be Forgotten

As debates over genocide and the war in Gaza continue, the atrocities of October 7 must not be minimized, forgotten, or stripped of their context.

The atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023, cannot be reduced to a death toll or a passing reference to a terrorist attack.

That day, Hamas terrorists invaded Israeli communities, murdering, raping, torturing, and kidnapping civilians. Victims were burned beyond recognition, bodies were mutilated, and forensic teams struggled to identify remains. The brutality was not incidental. Civilians were deliberately targeted.

Among the victims was 16-year-old Ruth Peretz, who had cerebral palsy and attended the Nova music festival with her father, Erick. Both were murdered, their bodies so badly burned that Ruth was eventually identified through a bone fragment from her foot.

Survivor testimony and investigations have also documented horrific sexual violence, while footage from the attacks captured terrorists celebrating the murder of Jews. One Hamas attacker even called his parents to boast about killing ten Jews.

These details matter because October 7 was not simply another episode in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It was a deliberate massacre targeting civilians, accompanied by acts of extreme cruelty and antisemitic hatred.

As debates over genocide and the war in Gaza continue, the atrocities of October 7 must not be minimized, forgotten, or stripped of their context.

The victims deserve to be remembered for what happened to them, and Hamas must remain accountable for the atrocities it committed.
