Children in Gaza are not only growing up in war. Many are also being exposed to an education system that glorifies violence, martyrdom, and hatred of Jews.
Reports on UNRWA-linked school materials have documented examples that should alarm anyone concerned about Palestinian children. One Arabic reading exercise described an attack on a Jewish bus as a “barbecue party.” Another lesson instructed teachers to ask students: “Why do the Jews perpetrate massacres?”
Then there is martyrdom. Watchdog reports have found teaching materials that present jihad, sacrifice, and “martyrs” as ideals for children to admire, including lessons for elementary school students.
This is not just anti-Israel rhetoric. It is a worldview being absorbed by children before they ever enter a Hamas training camp, where videos have shown minors participating in military drills, weapons training, tunnel exercises, and simulated attacks.
Gazan children can be victims of war and victims of terrorist indoctrination at the same time. One truth does not cancel out the other.
So when Western media covers the suffering of children in Gaza, this should be part of the story too.
Because teaching children to hate Jews, glorify martyrdom, and prepare for violence is not education.
It is indoctrination.
