UPDATE: CBS News changed the headline. It now reads:

Palestinians attack 2 Israeli officers before being killed

* * *

Three Palestinians armed with knives, guns, and pipe bombs went out to Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate looking to kill Israelis.

When they were stopped by police officers who saw them behaving suspiciously, the Palestinians attacked the cops. Quick police response averted a lot of bloodshed today.

As I skim through headlines on Twitter, Facebook, Google News, and more, I see headlines such as these:

Reuters: Three Palestinians shot dead after carrying out attack in Jerusalem: police

AFP: Jerusalem attack wounds 2 Israeli police, attackers killed

BBC: Israeli border guards shot in Jerusalem attack

Unfortunately, one utterly unprofessional headline from CBS News sticks out like an ugly black eye.

CBS News

It’s the same old story: Israelis are killers. Grinding violence is impersonal and inexplicable.

It’s a black eye for Israel, and a black eye for readers who deserve better.

HonestReporting CEO Joe Hyams said:

CBS failed not only to fulfill their journalistic duty but have joined other failed newsmakers of late in turning terrorists into victims. The media must be held accountable for the irrevocable harm they cause. Terror is terror and a failure to treat violence in Jerusalem, Paris or San Bernadino with equal measure is unacceptable. It’s time to take action against the institutional anti-Israelism infecting the halls of too many global news agencies.
