Israeli Government Video Irks Palestinians

July 28, 2011 13:56 by

Congratulations to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon for taking the initiative in the vital battleground of social media.

Ayalon’s YouTube video “The Truth About the West Bank” is evidently considered to be such a threat to the distorted Palestinian historical narrative that Saeb Erekat (who still appears to be the chief Palestinian negotiator despite resigning from the position in February 2011) has responded by publicly condemning the video in no uncertain terms.

Here’s your chance to help Israel online.

It’s really simple – click on the video and watch as Danny Ayalon explains the status of the West Bank. In September the Palestinian Authority plans to tie Israel up in legal knots at the UN with an appeal for statehood in the West Bank and Gaza based on the 1948 armistice line (commonly and misleadingly referred to as the “1967 borders”).

Wherever you are on the political map, it’s time that the world is reminded of Israel’s historical and legal rights as well as how Israel found itself in control of the disputed territories.

By simply clicking on this video or sharing it on social media platforms such as Facebook, you won’t just be reminding your own friends and friends of Israel of the facts. You will also be promoting this material “beyond the choir” to the millions of people who browse YouTube and know nothing of the Israeli narrative.

Evidently, the Palestinians find it difficult when Israel reasserts its rights in the face of the assault on the country’s legitimacy. According to the PA press release:

With this video, the Israeli government has left no doubt on its pro-conflict agenda. Now, the international community knows the Israeli government is committed to denying the Palestinian people their inalienable right to self-determination and on continuing their illegal and colonial enterprise in the occupied Palestinian territory”, said Dr. Saeb Erakat.

Dr. Erakat said this video, presented by the Israeli deputy minister of Foreign Affairs Danny Ayalon, denies the validity of UN resolutions and claims that the illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are a legitimate part of Israel. He added, “This is not an amateur video prepared by an extremist group. An official representing the State of Israel presents a cynical and falsified account of history and international law.

Dr. Erakat continued: “In its desperate attempt to gear international discourse away from the pursuit of genuine peace to the outdated arguments of those who oppose it, this official video went as far as discarding United Nations Resolution 181 (II).” “I want to remind the government of Israel that it was accepted at the UN as a full member based on its acceptance of this resolution” said Dr. Erakat.

Danny Ayalon

In reaction to the condemnation, Ayalon said: “For too long the Palestinian narrative of international law and rights has gone unchallenged and this over the top reaction to a public diplomacy video proves that they are acting like spoilt children who have had their way for too long. They are unable to challenge a single fact in the video and have completely avoided a legitimate and honest discussion on the issues.

In the press release, Erekat claims that Israel was accepted to the United Nations on the basis of UN General Assembly Resolution 181. “This false claims shows that Erekat misconstrues international law and its system proving exactly how misguided the Palestinian attempt to have their unilaterally declared state recognized at the United Nations really is. Israel was admitted as a full United Nations member in 1949 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 273, after a recommendation by the Security Council, because it met the criteria of statehood and signed armistice agreements with our neighbors, something the Palestinians should bear in mind before they further their confrontational and damaging plan towards September.

Help us to help Israel get the facts out. Spread this video and make a difference.

Both videos of Mr. Ayalon are on my Color Nook and I show the videos at every opportunity I get. I also carry a flash drive on which are several videos that can be loaded onto someone else’s computer so they can show it and, hopefully, the truth will be made clear to more and more people.

I wear a Shield of David that was made from a Kassam rocket that was exploded in Sefrot and when I show it to people I ask, “do you know what this is?” When they say the Star of David I say yes AND it is a piece of a rocket that the Arabs in Gaza exploded in a civilian area of southern Israel. Notice how thick the metal is. It doesn’t say so, but the rocket was made in Iran. According to Wikipedia ” Since 2000, Palestinian rockets have claimed the lives of 22 Israelis and one Thai national.” What it does NOT mention are the hundreds of men, women and children who have been maimed for life.

The rockets are simple; so are hand grenades. Also not mentioned are the countless number of Israeli and other nationalities who have post traumatic stress from never knowing when a rocket will appear. Those civilians have only SECONDS to take cover before a rocket explodes in their midst.

The Arabs receive, at the same time Hamas is lobbing those heinous rockets; food, clothing, fresh water, electricity…all from Israel. What other people on this planet does such a thing? Only one, and only the people who twice a day say Shema Yisroel…

Israel has to do a few things that will foster the truth: Stop calling Judea and Samaria the West Bank and stop calling the Arabs Palestinians. As long as we honor what the Arabs want, they will take advantage of those terms.

Arabs tell the truth only when it is to their advantage, the rest of the time they twist the truth so badly that it gets lost in the confusion they deliberately make up. Take the useless resolution 181; that had NOTHING to do with the creation of Israel. In fact, Mr. Ayalon’s video about the truth of the West Bank proves that beautifully.

Are ALL Arabs liars and cheats? Of course not. Although I am anything but a prophet, I will say that peace will never be possible. If we all live to be 120, the Arabs will still be lobbing rockets into Israel and lying about us to the media as to who is to blame for the situation.

Why is that so? Because the first Arab leader to recognize Israel will be murdered in cold blood and they know that.

Perhaps the US was a terrorist state from 1620-1910; the natives terrorized the Americans and vice versa. Or perhaps what the Jews endured at the hands of native peoples in what became Moslem lands for thousands of years was not terrorism. Why did nearly a million terrorized Jews (1941-67) from Moslem countries flee with all assets confiscated and still requiring restitution? What do you call all the pogroms in Russia driving millions of Jews elsewhere? If you ever find Israelis harsh with the locals, remember that their families (now more than half Israel’s present Jewish population) suffered in the Arab world up to 3000 years. You may recall that Mohammed himself, after being laughed at for his pathetic reformulation of Jewish law, drove the Jews from Mecca and Medina. Terrorism? How about your own community in the US? Have you checked the local history of Indian and white terrorism? Or what terrorism your community inflicted on African Americans? Puullleease!

Thanks for the scholarship which all goes to prove the oft repeated observation: with two Jews, you’ll have three opinions. That’s the beauty of Judaism that it usually tolerates all manner of criticism and opinion. That same intellectual freedom may account for the intellectual and scientific genius of the Jews. Some of the ultra-orthodox observations that you quote often seem outrageous, but they are indeed part of the intellectual ferment. You may recall that a few years ago, several of these folks were invited to Iran to denounce Zionism which they did. May I humbly suggest that you widen your reading fare?

Well, if you want to live in the West Bank or Gaza, you can always buy one from one of them, as long as you’re not Jewish. You see, they have the death penalty for selling a home to a Jew. If you want to live in any Middle Eastern Arab country (except Jordan), you probably won’t have an easy time buying a house from a Palestinian. That’s because those Arab countries severely restrict the rights of Palestinians in their land (including refusal of citizenship, various property rights, various jobs and government positions). But hey – it takes time for those Arab states to absorb those “refugees.” It’s only been 63 years!

Just after the Arabs lost the war in 1949, Arabs wished to sell their homes and leave Israel. But they were fearful of death at the hands of their Arab neighbors. An office was set up by Israel in Cyprus where they could effect a sale, take the money, and head for other lands. I would like to believe that Israel still offers a similar program.
