While he’s a former winner from back in September 2011, Jacob Amir of Jerusalem has come up trumps again with two published letters during the month of March. And just to prove that Jacob is spreading his net far and wide, those letters appeared in the LA Times and the UK’s Independent.

On March 15, Jacob addressed a false quote in a previous letter published by The Independent:

Khalid Haneef (letter, 15 March) writes that David Ben Gurion wrote to his son: “We will expel the Arabs and take their place.” But that quote is false. Here is what Ben Gurion wrote to his son in 1937: “We do not wish and we do not need to expel Arabs and take their place. All our aspiration is built on the assumption – proven by all our activity in the Land [of Israel] – that there is enough room in the country for ourselves and the Arabs.”

A few days later, on March 22, Jacob addressed an LA Times op-ed by Stephen Schlesinger on the Iranian nuclear issue:

Contrary to the authors’ assertion, Israel is not a “religiously defined nation.” It has no state religion. It is the nation-state of the Jewish people, not of the religious Jews.

We all hope that diplomatic pressure and sanctions will prevent the Iranian government from getting nuclear weapons. But if that fails, the Israeli government should take immediate measures to stop Iran, as it will represent an existential threat to Israel and its people.

Congratulations to Jacob, who will be receiving something from us in the mail very soon for his efforts.

Remember to keep writing those letters and let us know if you are published!
