When Sky News incorrectly referred to Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital, HonestReporting contacted reporter Sean Dilley.
Palestinian efforts to delegitimize Israeli ties to the city, as well as the international community’s refusal to recognize Jerusalem as the capital, are a sensitive point for many Jews. While the world is free to not recognize Jerusalem, incorrectly designating Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital is inaccurate. Indeed, in 2012, HonestReporting’s legal pressure forced The Guardian to change its style guide, which labeled Tel Aviv as the capital city.
Dilley acknowledged the error as inadvertent and Sky News fixed the mistake.
