This no-holds-barred Houston Chronicle staff-ed squarely blames Iran for the war now engulfing Israel and Lebanon:
The wave of violence from Israel’s north has only one purpose: To foment and aggravate unrest in the Middle East in furtherance of Iran’s desperate attempt to export radical Islamist control throughout the region. The Iranian government’s self-proclaimed, undiminished, ultimate goal, of course, is to wipe Israel off the map.
The immediate troubles — including the rockets and hostage-taking squads — may stem from Lebanon-based guerrillas and be carried out with the connivance and support of Syria. But the roots extend all the way back to the top ranks of the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. That’s where the international community should demand that the remedial action begin.
