With the possibility of Iranian and Lebanese flotillas attempting to break the blockade of Gaza, it appears that Israel’s enemies are queuing up to stoke the flames of the recent Gaza flotilla crisis. There are still some in the media who choose to ignore the steady flow of evidence clearly showing that the members of the Turkish extremist IHH were certainly not motivated by humanitarian concerns.

A Despicable Comparison
While some of Israel’s detractors have accused her of an act of “piracy”, perhaps the most despicable and false comparison we have seen comes from the pen of Linda McQuaig, writing in the Toronto Star:
There is a compelling need for a serious, UN-mandated investigation of these killings, which are as horrific as the killing on the Achille Lauro.
To recall, on October 7, 1985, four members of one of the PLO’s factions, the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), hijacked the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro and demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak persuaded the hijackers to surrender, but not before they shot to death a wheelchair-bound Jewish passenger from the United States named Leon Klinghoffer, dumping his body overboard.
Does McQuaig really believe that the deaths of Turkish extremists bent on attacking Israeli soldiers is in any way comparable to that of the innocent and wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer, deliberately killed by terrorists?

IHH Operatives Prepared for Violent Confrontation
The videotaped statements of two Mavi Marmara crew members show that preparations for a violent confrontation with IDF forces were put in motion about two hours before the boarding began, when the Israeli Navy hailed the ship and told it to halt.
According to the statements, the atmosphere aboard the Mavi Marmara was tense and the crew noticed a gathering on the main deck. When they checked the upper deck they discovered that IHH operatives were cutting the ships railings with metal disks they had brought with them into lengths suitable to be used as clubs. The crew members said the activities worried them and that they tried to stop the operatives but were unsuccessful.
